Pretty much everyone everywhere saw this coming way ahead of time.

Dude has been effing with the Packers' offseason programs for years. Now he's going to give them the ultimate nutshot by forcing them to release him in the middle of his contract. Nice guy.

He has also carried hapless teams on his back and played through untold number of injuries for the franchise. I hope he can find a team and kick some buttocks. Heck I will take him for my Bucs.

I hope he stays in the NFC North. The Bears are 6-2 against him in the last four years. I wouldn't mind him signing with the Bears either, as long as the defense gets to hit him in practice.

He is a great QB, one of the best ever, but he is entering prima donna territory with his annual "Will I/ Won't I" drama. As it causes misery to the Packers and their fans, especially this year, I am all for it.

Favre in any other colors than Green and Gold is wrong!  Retire and fade into the sunset as planned. Don't be like Reggie White, Joe Montana, and many others.

I think he's pi$$ed that the last pass he threw was picked off and set up the field goal that sent the Giants to the Super Bowl.

Sweet, I have his rights in my fantasy league so I would love for him to jump on with a high powered offense and get the starting job.

He did retire. Perhaps what you mean is "He should stay retired already."

Cool

No misery here.  Had fun as a fan of the gunslinging area and now look forward to a QB that should play more within the system and not take so many "1 reciever....3 defenders...I can fit it in there" chances.

I've been a Buccaneers fan my whole life... and all of the "experts" are placing Favre's destination as Tampa. Poor Jeff Garcia. Dude was the league MVP last year short of Tom Brady, takes a team from last to first, and there is still a chance he gets pushed aside for someone else.

BTW, if he were at all gracious to the team, he wouldn't be saying "I deserve unconditional release - do not trade me or try to get any value for the contract that I signed".

I'm pretty sure Favre would have topped Garcia for MVP last year. LT probably would have as well.

But I will offer my condolences on that whole-life Buccaneers fan thing though.

Hopefully when he goes to another team, as long as it's not my Vikings, it opens the GB fans' eyes to the fact that while he did win a lot of games on that "gunslinger" mentality he also lost them just as many games. Maybe then you won't hear how he's the all time record holder for TD's and yards (or whatever) and hear all time leader in TD's, INT's, yards, etc...

I've got a lot of respect for the player. He started an unbelievable string of games. At the same time the pack is making the right decision if they move on without him.

Edit: Also League MVP voting last year:

"Brady is the first Patriot selected NFL MVP. He drew 49 of the 50 votes from a nationwide panel of media members who regularly cover the NFL. Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre, the only three-time MVP, got the other vote."

From http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3182557

Theone vote Farve got was John Madden.  We all know this.

Took a lot of hard years. We had to wait until Culverhouse died to get the team into good hands. Since 1996 we have a parade of division titles and a super bowl title so things are better now.

I want to say 1st that I am a Favre fan (but not a GB fan). Having said that how many years in a row can he possibly think he can hold the team (and accompanying salary cap) hostage? Every year for the last 3 or so years he drags this on past free agency and the team is supposed to just sit and wait. Now he's giving interviews and slamming the coach, GM and everyone for any possible mistake they've ever made. Again I love the guy's career but you want to talk about a mistake how about that last pass against the Giants!

"It's tempting just to, as everyone said, you know, call their bluff or whatever," Favre said. "I think it's going to be a circus in itself already, whether I go there, whatever."

Okay, now he's getting into TO territory. I've always been a huge fan but every time he opens his mouth I lose more personal respect for him. He's actually considering destroying training camp just to get his way. Great leading, Hall of Fame QB.

There's an idea.  Take a quarterback who sucks when he plays in Dallas and make him your starter so he can suck for 8 games a year.

P.S.  Green Bay fan and Farve fan.

P.P.S.  Love watching his ball slinging style AND look forward to having a QB who plays more within the system and doesn't take the high risks.

People were killing Chad Johnson for doing less than Farve is doing right now.

You don't think that has anything to do with playing in a hostile stadium on the road. Granted that stadium has a lot to get used to with the major crown in the field but if it became his home stadium I seriously doubt his play there would not improve.

Besides, I want him in Tampa and I have already made the call. Thank you Mr. Garcia for what you have done, but we would appreciate if you would just hold this clipboard and cash your paychecks.

Thank you Mr. Garcia for what you've done?  What's he done?  No offense to Tampa Bay fans, especially as a Vikings fan I have little room to talk, but he got you to the playoffs last year through an extremely weak division.  But I say the same thing about favre.  He hasn't done much since 1996.   Since '04 hasn't he thrown more interceptions than TD's?  You know that's only going to get worse as his arm strength goes down, which it will...even a little bit matters, and he gets less mobile while trying to make the circus plays he has.  I don't see his starting streak lasting the year if he is able to come back this year.
