Pre-race routine:

go to bathroom, drink water, eat breakfast-plum, applesauce.
Swim
  • 07m 20s
  • 383 meters
  • 01m 55s / 100 meters
Comments:

Put in the wrong time on registration form. Ended up thinking I could do it in 12 min. Did better than that. Lots of weaving around others. Got a little tired toward the last lap. Had new goggles. Shorts seemed to slide down a bit when I would push off wall to go under the divider. Had to pull those up every once in a while.
What would you do differently?:

Put a more accurate time on the form next time. Wear different shorts. Nothing else. Warm up with a swim/stretch.
Transition 1
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

Thought I did good in these. More experience will tell.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to mount bike faster.
Bike
  • 50m 43s

  • 14.20 mile/hr
Comments:

Seemed to be passed a lot. Only passed 2 or 3 people. A lot of huffing and puffing. Glad for the breeze & camelbak. Hands were going numb (right), butt was way sore with a little tail bone soreness. Bike not comfortable at all!
What would you do differently?:

Have more gel pacs. Have a better bike. Train more inclines/hills.
Transition 2
  • 00m 50s
What would you do differently?:

Grab nutrition & water. Pace myself out of transition.
Run
  • 28m 50s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

It was way hot! Very glad for the water set up at 1 mile & 2 mile. Did good pacing self. Passed walkers & a couple joggers. Had a lot of positive self talk going on to keep going. Glad had a hat & sunglasses. Tried to race a kid into finish. Ended up throwing up right before the finish line. John walked me to the finish. Threw up more there. All the powerade & water I just had at the 2nd mile marker.
What would you do differently?:

Have water & a gel pack. Maybe not drink powerade till the race was over. Maybe not race the kid to the finish line?
Post race
Warm down:

Water. Standing.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough sleep the few days before. No sleep from excitement the night before. Maybe the camelbak? Not sure if it was clean enough. Not enough training on long bike rides. Wrong type of uncomforable bike. No music! --need to train more without it:)

Event comments:

Good for first one. Had a lot of fun & helped me realize I will be doing this again very soon:)
