Subject: riding routes near Bartlesville, OK

Hello all! I've just become an Okie - well part time I work in Bartlesville but live in Joplin...long story. Anyway, I have gone and forgot that I signed up for Redman next month and I need to get in some good quality bike time. Problem - the heat is killing me. I'm so afraid to ride geez don't know how you people do it.

Can you guys help me with bike routes around south Tulsa and OW swims and how to avoid copperheads and black snakes...Yowsers!

We have a training group that rides throughout the week and on the weekends.  We do long rides on saturday mornings.  There are about 10 of us from our group who are doing Redman and are going to start doing more open water swims soon.  My group trains in Owasso, just north of tulsa.

There is also a group called Tulsa Area Triathletes (TAT). They have group training rides and swims throughout the week.  www.tatok.com is their website.

I actually ride one of the "Tulsa Tough" 100 mile rides.  Ride/drive from South Tulsa into Tulsa, get on the west bank, take west 21st --> turns into w 23rd --> turns into Avery drive (go by Chandler park) --> right onto Hwy 51 --> right exit onto Hwy 151 at Keystone Dam, then you'll be on the Tulsa Tough route and you can follow the yellow markings on the road for as long as you want.  It takes you out on a pretty ride through the country.  It is hot though, so take lots of fluids and some extra cash so you can hit some of the gas stations along the route.

For swims, I think some people go out to Lake Skiatook.  The folks with the Tulsa Area Triathletes can put you in the loop for OWS and group rides.
