I have been using my 305 for about a month now and noticed that it calculates calories burned per hour are much higher while biking than while running. I don't actually use the calorie information for anything so it doesn't really matter but surely it can't be correct?

Anyone else see this with their 305?

I noticed the same thing. I decided to go to the web and Google calories burned while biking. I did not find any great calculators, but I am sure there are people here who know where to find one. But there is no way I am burning the number of calories per hour that my Garmin would think that I am.

It seems right on for running, but totally off for biking.  If only I really burned 5500 calories on my long rides!  My polar CS600 used to give readings that I felt were accurate, around 350-450 calories per hour (I am small).

My polar HR does not give me calories burned. I often use http://www.caloriesperhour.com/ tho it does not take into account heart rate, and I am going to burn alot more calories going 17 mph on the bike than Andy Schleck would.

So, last fall, I spent time googling "heart rate calorie calculators" and found a formula in a cycling bbs. I made a javascript calculator of it here:

I'd be curious as to how that formula compares to various HR watches.
