Subject: Swim Training with Flippers

Some of the swim workouts I've found online call for swimming with flippers.  The aquatic center I use allows the use of their gear (e.g., flippers, pull buoys, kick boards, etc.) for members.  But non of the flippers are the right size.

My wife and I have snorkeling sets from her time in Hawaii, including flippers.  Would those flippers get the same results as swim training flippers, or do swim training flippers have a different amount of flex?

Until I get swim training flippers, would they work?

Work? In a pinch perhaps. ideal? No. The scuba or snorkeling fins will actually train poor form as the kick is different than normal stroke kick (at least for me). The trainer fins are much less enabling and still require good technique while offering additional surface area to get the yards in needed to build up your kick. They are cheap and can be found at most sporting good stores now. Good Luck...

Thanks.  That's exactly the type of info I was looking for!
