Running Fit is putting on the T-Rex Sprint Distance Triathlon on Wednesday the 13th at Island Lake. The race starts at 6:30 PM: .5 mile swim, 12.4 mile bike, 3 mile run.

This is a cool idea: A short, quick, local tri during the week. A real race and a great workout on home turf.

I am really trying to adjust my schedule Wednesday to do this event. It sounds like a lot of fun. Any of you guys going?

The T-rex is my second stop for my TRIfecta for 30!

I am doing Lansing Legislature 8/10

I turn 30 on 8/11

I am doing Trex on 8/13

and I am ending my tri season with the Island Lake of Novi race on 8/17

Three tris to start off my 3rd decade on this planet.

Oh, and in between I am going to swim an additional 3 miles, bike an additional 30 miles, and run an additional 10 as part of my b-fit bday challenge.  Check it out at bfitbday.com!

I would like to do it, but I'm afraid I won't get there in time! The traffic in that direction from way over here on the east side is going to suck! I'll have to see if I can sneak out...

If I count correctly that is only 2 tris to start you 3rd decade and 1 tri to end your 2nd decade.  I think we need to see if we can find you a tri to do on 8/16, like Sanford and Sun.

Seriously, adding the additional bike and run, I think you've surpassed overachieving and gone right to CRAZY (but that is why we like you)!

Do they require Tuesday packet pickup?  That would be the killer for me.  Driving down two days in a row to race one day.

I'll be there! It's my debut triathlon, and while I'm scared to death of the swim, I just want to finish.

Hope to see some of you there!

Has anyone done it before? Is it easy, moderate, challenging course?

I think this is thefirst year of this event! Fun!

Don't quote me, but I believe the bike loop is the road from the Kent lake parking lot-out and back is 12.4 miles or there abouts. I have no clue on the run...the swim is in Kent Lake. Running fit has been having clinics out there thursdays at 6:30p.m.

Thanks for the Heads up on this one. Its right near where I work, would love to do it but With Novi 4 days later, and being VERY under prepared better sit this one out.

But since it is so close to work, and I love the idea, just wish it was a different week. I did volunteer. So I should see you all out there.

I will certainly be at the T-Rex! It is a fun bike course with a couple of good hills, but not too killer! Kent lake sure seems much choppier than than where we normally swim and I don't see too many flat spots, so I am sure the run will be fairly hilly as well, but this looks like a fun event with a cool concept (weekday evening!). I am very much looking forward to doing this.

Jen, I will see you tomorrow at the Legislator and then Wedneday. Have a GREAT B-Day week, you are my new hero

gr8lksrungal - 2008-08-11 9:22 AM Is there a way we can all meet up? I'd love to put some names with faces.

Absolutely we can meet up!  We tend to gravitate to each other.

I am excited to see everyone!  TRIfecta race #1 is in the books, and I am looking forward to getting #2 in there as well!

I stopped into RunningFit Saturday and the race courses are printed out there.  The run is a simple 5K, the bike is the entire loop including the hill after the RR tracks down by Island Lake.   The swim is a simple 1/2 mile, pry triangle, but they did not have a swim course map posted.

My advise to anyone doing this race as a first triathlon - be confident, have fun and smile!  ILRA is a GREAT venue - some nice hills, but great opportunities for some speed - every hill has it's reward!    There will be a LOT of people out there on fitness bikes and a LOT of first timers.  So just focus on having a good time and finishing strong!

Don't worry about the chop in the water too much - we typically swim in a small closed lake (Trout) behind Kent Lake, but it is not accessable aside from walking a half mile to get there!   Kent Lake is HUGE in comparison, so there are more waves, but definitely nothing to worry about!  You will do fine!

We will definitely meet up pre race for introductions and the like.  I am not positive where the parking will be exactly, so I am going to suggest that we meet up over by the restrooms on Kent Lake beach.  Sound good?  I'll be there early, and I will have my FAST visor on (my tri club).

Good luck!

Thanks for posting the maps, Jen.

Now for my pre-race freak out... have you done that hill by Island Lake?  I always do the loop that takes you past the railroad tracks into that parking lot and then turn around.  Is that Island lake hill bad?

I wish I could channel you with the biking the way I have with the running.  My running has gotten worse this summer and my bike has remained the same, what's up with that?  Who would've ever thought that running would be our weaknesses?

I looking forward to meeting up with everyone on Wed. night.  We should have a rawkin' great time!
