yes, i have the BTA (British triathlon) http://www.britishtriathlon.org.I havent seen anywhere where it speaks about tri bikes even though they are probably on there. I have done triathlon races only so far and people use road bikes.

Checked the site real quick, didn't find a rule book, but did find several mentions (recommendations to use) aerobars. Don't know why they would allow (recommend) aerobars and not allow tribikes.

Sounds to me that it could be race-specific, like Steve said maybe some ITU draft-legal races. Certainly do a thorough investigation of the races in which you plan on participating before plopping down your cash.

Perhaps you are confused.  A triathlon bike IS a road bike that is set up especially for triathlons: shorter chain stay, shorter head tube, aero bars, bar end shifters, and no drop bars.  It is not meant to be ridden in a peloton but, because age groupers are not allowed to draft during the bike leg, that's okay.  Elite triathletes are allowed to draft, that is why you see many of them riding road bikes in ITU sanctioned olympic triathlons.

If you are going to use the Pinarello only for road racing then you don't need any other bike.  It is a great bike as it is.  You can also use the Pinarello for triathlons and it will be better than most of the other entrants' bikes.

billypb - 2005-02-04 2:49 PM i have got a set of clip on tribars that i use in races. I dont know if i am allowed to use tri bikes at my age in sprint races. I have got different wheels now than that pic

You also might want to turn that quick release around.  Just sayin...

I think your bike is pretty nice. Just ride it and race on it and you'll be fine, if it fits you. I just read the bike rules on the BTA link you posted and triathlon bikes are not banned but they are not specifically mentioned either. Drop style handlebars are not required and also not mentioned, which means that you can use pursuit or bullhorn handlebars. If you're over 13 you can use aerobars. The only thing that could be a problem is the seat position requirement. The nose of the seat cannot be more than 5cm in front of the bottom bracket centerline and no more than 15cm behind it. I have a road bike with a Fizik saddle on it that's 30cm long, so my saddle would be illegal. I think a lot of triathlon specific bikes would also break this rule regardless of the saddle they use because of their steep seat tube angle. It would seem that the BTA rules as they are could prevent you from achieving the best bike fit and the seat requirement may be why you don't see tri bikes at races.

Alll in all i think your best bet is to keep the biek you have and just clip on the aero bars and buy some nice fast deeper wheels to race on then for your road races you just take off the aerobars and your good to go, also just keep the bike you have and slowy upgrade like new parts here and there then when you have enough money for a new bike you can just buy a really good frame then switch all your compnents over to the new frame, so therefore you just buy a frame that will last you and go all out then you never have to worry about the investment of a whole bike or frame again you just upgrade the compnents as you go.. you could also keep your old frame to put all your old parts on and use it as a trainer then just have a good race bike all depends what kind of cash flow you have... I know how it is at your age because I am your age and I have bought 3 bikes in the past 2 1/2 years so it really all depends on your money.. and trust me the bike swerent easy to get i had to pay for them... $1000....$2500....$5000 will i go higher nope but if i ever have a bike worth more than that I wont be buying which is the easiest way out try to get a SPONSOR whether its a LBS or a major bike company every little bit helps

Thats my 2 cents

i tried to get a sponsor but they said that they had spent too much money on advertising at the moment. i have found a bike that i like and i am going to be getting a discount on the frame, and hopefully discounts on the rest of the bike, because i get on well with the LBS. My quick releases are the other way round now

Im getting a Alloy 7005 tubing with Carbon Seatstays and Chainstays Fork for £400 ($749) which i think is a really good deal. I will probably get a Campag chorus 10sp groupset. Hopefully, the bike will be around £1200 ($2,247).

hey billy, i am from the uk, and have looked at your aims, presuming u are going to be on the GB squad and racing in elite races i dont think u can ride Tri-Bikes as they are drafting races and u can only have slam (short tri bars) in draft races

i would agree to stick with a road bike, but as had been said for £1000 u wont get anything but 105, u need to go upto about £1400 for ultegra, but u could buy a new frame and forks and put your ultegra set on it, now is a good time to buy as the shops are selling their older stock at cheaper prices

So, you are getting another road bike!   I take it then that you will be road racing and not doing triathlons!  Admittedly, the  new aluminum bike you are getting sounds fabulous  ...allloy 7005 tubing, carbon rear stary, carbon fork ... and the whole dressed in Campagnolo Chorus!  That would have been my dream road bike, something along the line of the old Eddy Merckx Team SC or the Race 2005.  You already have a Pinarello and now you will getting this fine racing machine!!!  PLEASE tell me that you are keepting the f the Pinarello for training!  It is too fine a bicycle to be rid of!

i will be doing triathlons, it is just that in the UK, you are mostly not allowed to use tri bikes. I will just stick my tri bars on them instead. There is no way i am going to be selling/gettin rid of my sweet pinarello! i would be a fool to, even though i would get quite a bit of money for it. How much is that bike worth these days? Im using the pinarello for training still, and only use the other bike for races.

Punctuation- the practice, art or system of using certain conventional marks or characters, as periods, comma's, etc., in writing or printing in order to make the meaning clear, as in ending sentences, separating clauses, etc.

A PSA brought to you by me.

as periods, comma's, etc.,

If you're giving grammar lessons, at least check your own. You have an improper plural here...the apostrophe indicates a possessive or a contraction, not a plural.

Although, I do have to agree, the dude needs to go out and buy a big ol' bag of puctuation marks. Probably some lessons in sentence structure would help too, once we decide where one sentence ends and the other begins.

Off on another hijack, we are...

...brought to you by Mr. Winkie ;-)

Ok, Billy, explain to me how this new bike is better than your old bike, how you are better off now than before (besides being $2400 lighter in the wallet).
