I just got an email about registration opening on September 1, 2008 for next year's race.  They changed the start time to 2:00pm.  What do you guys thing of that?  Personally if they were going to start later, I'd just want a later morning start time, say 10:00am, but 2:00pm???  What about all of us BOPers that take six hours or so to finish, it will be after 8:00pm!  Just what to hear what others think of this, maybe I'm the only one that thinks it's a bad idea.

This was talked about a little last month: http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid...

Being a morning person It would be hard for me to wait til 2. I'll be interested to read reports on the race and see how this later time works for folks.

Hey thanks!  I had just gotten back to work after IMCdA and vacation and things were crazy I missed those posts!  I guess what I don't like is the waiting, I'd just want to get up and getting going first thing in the am to be done with the race and have the rest of the day to relax.  For the most part we don't have hot weather that time of year but it would definitely suck having to race during the hottest part of the day.

Hey, I just saw the note about Boise starting at 2 PM too!  On one hand, I'm not a morning person so this is wonderful news.  On the other hand, I have a tough time with heat so the run is going to be brutal for me.  I do know that the swim will be much better at a late time.  The water was very choppy early in the morning as it usually is.  A late start time might make the swim more pleasant.  Pick your poison.  I still plan on doing it in 2009!  It was a super fun race!

I did the race this year and had a great time and would not hesitate to race again. I know there were some concerns about the road closures in some locations that affected a state soccer tourney. I'm good with the new start time for several reasons.

1) I won't have to get up so early to catch the shuttle to the start line. The road up to Lucky Peak is two lane. The parking is limited and traffic is closed until the last person leaves T1. I can also eat a decent meal before the race.

2) The water was very choppy and extremely cold. A later start will allow the air and water temps to warm up.

3) The run course is along the Boise river with plenty of cover so the air temps of the low 80s will be fine.

4) It does not get dark up there until 9:30-10:00, so all of us will finish while it is still light out.

5) The BODO district downtown should be a little livelier. If you stay downtown, you can walk to your hotel room from the finish line.

I hope this info is helpful as you plan your 09 schedule.
