erin116 - 2008-09-30 1:00 PM I agree a high of 89 is toasty and we need to respect that. My comment was in regards to the Cool for Texas comment. I thought it was funny the other day that we were still warm compared to pretty much anywhere else and my whole ride group was bundled up like it was below freezing (yes, several had broken out their winter riding jackets)

There I have to agree. We can be such wimps about the cold, me included. Had people out last weekend with leggings, arm warmers, jackets... and the low that day was lower 60's I believe.

In the 60's on a rec ride I will usually start out with at least arm warmers...but I strip quickly.

Good point.  For those who don't know, Austin is a clothing optional city.

I know that if the temps are in the 60s or 70s in the morning, I will be freezing when I come out of the water and first get on the bike. I get cold way too easy (there's a reason I live in Texas). Now, on the run, I'm sure I'll be sweating like crazy. I just hope it doesn't get as hot as it did last year.

I wished I had them when we first started Saturday, but for as super cold as I get (the reason I live in TX), I warm up super quickly when working out so I would have taken them off 5 minutes in. I'm still contemplating getting a pair for this weekend, kind of as security blanket if I'm cold after the swim but I really don't think I'll need them.

If memory serves, the course, in the first few miles is mostly flat, so if you are prone to  being cool, you may be for a short while.  Before too long you'll forget about the flat stuff.
The run up from the lake will warm you up too don't forget.

What would Brian Boitano do? My name is jenn, I live in San Diego, CA.  UPS has apparently misplaced my bike, which was shipped to Jack and Adams on 9/22 with a 9/25 ETA.  To date bike is MIA. Yes, a tracer is in place, and yes, guys at Jack and Adams are aware of situation.

That being said, I depart San Diego early Thursday morning, and arrive in Austin around 1:30 p.m.  If by chance my bike does not arrive by Friday, I'd like to have a back up plan, namely one that includes finding a loaner bike.  So, in case folks at J&A don't happen to have a loaner for me, this is my call for one.  I ride a size 50. If any local kids can be of assistance, let me know.

Cheers.

Ken, I just looked at your log from the other day, and you rode 41 miles and climbed almost as much at the course for 56

I am in a tent in Salina, KS.

Halfway there!

And it had better not be wetsuit legal...I realized an hour outside of Rapid that I had forgotten mine.

Great point brought up in jldicarlo's post........any updates on water temp?? i am flying down tomorrow from colorado and would like to know if there is any chance of a wetsuit legal race.  if not, i would love to save some room in my suitcase.

Thanks,

Chris

I'm leaving mine at home.

(Besides - -my wife said she wouldn't allow me to "put that stinky, wet thing" back in the suitcase afterwards.)

For those of you that didn't get Keith's email update...here is a part of it....

TAKE YOUR BIKE OFF THE TOP OF YOUR CAR BEFORE YOU ENTER THE SHERATON PARKING DECK (YOU WILL SMASH IT).  IT WILL BE SAFER INSIDE YOUR CAR.

I know it's not funny but it made me smile ....

A lot of traffic today at AustinTriCyclist and Jack&Adams bike shops. Some pros are hanging out there. People keep buying bikes and stuff ;-) If you have time to kill today, take a quick tour of the Barton Springs Rd and check out the bike shops.

We have a sign up right as you go into the parking deck to alert you about the BIKE ON YOUR ROOF....

Amazingly, for those of you that haven't packed, BRING YOUR WETSUIT!!!!! Water was measured at 79 this am. It may well be wetsuit legal.

The water temp was 88 the end of last week. I'm shocked, but if it's cool tonight and tomorrow, it may well be below 78 for race day....

YES, I'M SERIOUS......
