Hi Folks,

I am a newbie.  I am doing my third sprint tri this weekend.  I am working on training for a halfIM next year but I am not sure which one to do.  I had wanted to do a new one I saw for September 09 at the Ritz Carlton Reynolds Plantation but now I can't find it.  Can anyone suggest a lake or pool swim HIM towards the end of the season next year?  I really want one this is fun, lost of folks of all sizes so I won't be alone at the end of the race.  Thanks!  Alison

I think this is the one you mentioned. I've never done HIM, but I'd think HIM in the pool would suck.

Actually this race will be in Lake Oconee ... and based upon an OWS from the Ritz hotel "beach", the swimming there is fantastic.

That said, the inaugural Ironman Augusta 70.3 next September looks to be particularly attractive give the quality that normally comes from one of the 'sanctioned' races. See: http://ironman.com/mediacenter/pressreleases/ironman-70.3-augusta-to-take-place-on-september-27-2009

The SC HIM, like Kraig said, is a good race too - close enough to drive to and Set-Up does some great events.

Good luck with your training.

I'm thinking about the one at the Ritz also, if I can talk Doug into it.  The Lake Oconee area is beautiful and not too far from Atl.

The West Point lake and Chattanooga Olympic distance races were also a good races that were pretty close.

Alison,

I'm doing my first HIM next year as well after getting biten with the triathlon bug this year!

I've already signed up for the Ironman 70.3 Augusta on September 27, 2009

The swim in the Savannah River won't be as nice as Lake Oconee but I want my four granddaughters to be able to see me compete near their hometown and they live just north of Augusta!

I talked to hubby and he and I are both leaning towards the Augusta race at this point.  It will cost more but seems bigger and better organized.  I swear I am addicted to this tri stuff now...

Hello..I am Alison, Its been 48 hours since my last tri...

I'll be doing my first HIM next year at Augusta, too! September time frame.

I think that will be a good first one. Swimming with the river might be a little different, though!

Good luck!
