Subject: Dairyland Dare this weekend

I don't know if anyone is planning on doing this ride this weekend and I didn't see another thread, so I thought I'd post something here.

The Dairyland Dare is this weekend.  There are several route options (100k, 200k, 266k, and 300k) on many of the same hilly routes that the Horribly Hilly Hundred is on in the Dodgeville area.  It is a very well run ride and the weather is supposed to be great.

One of the main reasons I'm posting is that the race organizer is really desperate for more riders.  He's currently going to take a personal loss of about $10,000, so anyone else who does this will be helping out.  It's a great ride and in jeopardy of not continuing if they can't get more people.  I wish I was close enough to do it again.

So, if you or anyone you know are interested, you can check out the website:

http://www.dairylanddare.com/

or register here:

http://www.zapevent.com/ListActivities.aspx?eventid=141

Let me know if you have questions about it.

Thanks,
Jen

Lot's of folks doing Pleasant Prairie this weekend...Jszat is the only one I know participating in DD.

Bummer that the RD is struggling to field enough athletes. Truth is, this ride sound difficult and probably scares away too many potential participants.

Yeah, I realized that Pleasant Prairie is this weekend afterwards.

Lots of people do the Horribly Hilly hundred, so it's a little strange that he's struggling so much.

I did find out that there is a shorter 66k version that doesn't include all of the really big hills.  Might be a nice option for some people.  It isn't chip timed like the other ones though.

my guess is that its just a case of bad timing with PP and race around the lake both being the same weekend. i think if it was one weekend back it would have been a big hit and a better time for all the IMWI people. just my 2 cents

I'll be there. I am in for the 200K. I know that the Chicago Tri Club will be pretty well represented at the DD. I can easily name 10-15 of us who will be there.

I have friends coming in from Chicago, staying with us, who are doing it (for the 4th year)  They also come for Horribly Hilly and a new one a few weeks ago called Insane Terrain.

These friends (husband and wife, late 40's) go to Europe every year for a 2 week bike trip in the Pyrenees and say that these 3 rides are as challneging if not MORE than the big European climbs, because it's so up and down and twisty- climbs aren't as big, but they are constant?

I dunno, I refuse to suffer, so I don;t ride them!

It is supposed to be a gorgeous wknd, though, so come on out Tough Guys and Gals!

good times, though a friend did an endo on a descent and needed stitches.  have yet to hear an update but think she was ok from the report I got yesterday.

The 200K was super long both how long it took me and the fact that it was over 200K by about 8-10 miles (including a short detour I made when I missed a turn).

I also had a friend endo on her bike just outside Clyde. She hit some uneven pavement on a descent. She is still in the hospital with a broken clavicle and a serve concussion. At least 5 riders were transfered from Dodgeville to the UW Madison hospital. According to Drs at the hospital, a guy broke his pelvis, another women split her chin and lost 3 teeth. Not sure about the others. Based on ambulance reports, at least 3 of the accidents occurred on a descent on the way to Clyde that had potholes at the bottom. By the time I got to the hill, they had spray painted warnings on the top of the hill and marked the potholes.

instigator... sorry to hear about your friend's accident   I heard about a few accidents when I got back to Harris Park...   Hope your friend is okay.

Sounds so brutal.  Ugh!  Kuddos to those of you that survived.  Prayers for all those in the hospital or injured because of it.
