Event warmup:

Little run. Put on more gloves. I wore two pair, it was colder than last race with the wind chill, it was very windy. Did a little 3 mile ride with some pick ups to get the heart rate up. Another little jog to the potty with some pickups.
BIke was First.

Comments:

The run course was hilly and the second leg of the race. My feet were so numb that I felt like I was running on club feet for 3 1/2 miles. I could not run fast today.
I put the rest of my run comments with the bike section.
What would you do differently?:

Wear my booties on the bike.

Post race
Warm down:

Left right away and went to the club for a shower and a hot tub. Boy was that nice on a cold day. Ate a cliff bar, drank a pepsi, gatorade and coffee.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough intervals on the bike or run. I am still in my base phase.

Event comments:

Fun race! I am glad it is over though. I can't wait to run in the heat. I am much better when it is too hot instead of too cold.

I will update age group and overall results when they are posted. I was 3rd overall before todays race.

This was the second leg of the race. Heart rate was low for the first hill than I picked up the pace.. No HR monitor today.
Course: Hilly- first part was up hill on a concrete path, it then turned into dirt path for about 1 1/2. Last 2 miles were on the park road and up hill on concrete to the finish. It was SNOWING lightly the whole race.

This was the first leg. I didn't have a HR monitor but It was high for the first couple miles than I backed off.
Wind: Some
Course: The course was a bit different than the first race. Flat start, I started out in the lead of my wave. I was in the first wave, each wave was 1 minute apart from each other. I started out fast to get ahead of everyone in my wave. Then at about mile 4 a guy from next wave passed me. Then another guy from the wave before passed me. The first guy was the winner of the race so I didn't feel too bad. I never saw him on the run. I could not hold a very fast average today my legs felt very cold and stiff. My average for that loop is usually around 24 miles an Hour in a time trial situation. So I was slow today. THe second guy that passed me I caught at the 1/2 mile of the start of the run. Got to a flat section and opened it up a bit more. Kept looking behind me and there was no one real close. At the uphill finish, (which sucked), I opened it up a bit more because some guy was coming up on me. He did not catch me thankfully. I felt very sluggish on the run, probaly because it was so cold. No one passed me on the run.

Nice race Mark!  Snow is certainly a problem - sucks to race in it.    You did great!

Way to go Mark.  Sounds like a cold race - way to get out there and race despite the nasty weather!!!!  Nothing worse than running with numb feet...

So, if a 6:41 mile pace is slow, what's your fast mile running pace?

So I guess "Chilly Cheeks" is an accurate description of your physical state after the race.

Yeah, that 6:41 mile pace is pretty slow - ha! Looks pretty fast to me. And pretty awesome for base phase racing! I can't wait to see your times when the real season starts. Great job!
