I just saw this on the website and was wondering if it's really an AG group start and not a mass start?  Does anyone know if this is accurate or just a typo??

Pick your packet, it must include: Back pack, race numbers (body, bike, helmet), swim cap (see chart for color according to age group start wave), ticket to Pasta Dinner, ticket to closing party, information booklet, Winning Time chip, official fleece jacket, water bottle, Bike gear bag (BLUE) and Run gear bag (RED).

I think they must have copied a lot of the info from the Cancun 70.3 page (same organizers). I can't imagine the 140.6 being a wave start. It will take a lot of the mystique out of it, don't you think?

My thoughts exactly!

Im thinking about Ironman #2 for 2009 and this seems like a good one after IMKY.  Another $550 in entry fees ... this sport is *starting* to get expensive!

I'm looking for a "destination" race.  This could be it.  Anyone know how fast it typically sells out?  I would like to wait a couple months until I finish my first IM to see if I want to sign up for another.

There were already 960+ out of 1,500 signed up as of a few days ago, around 65%. I would bet it sells out pretty soon. I wouldn't wait too long if I were you.

Ignorance is bliss- sign up before your first IM

I wonder what the registration number  is at right now? I haven't seen a number posted recently.  I'm kinda waiting until I find out about the wave/mass start.  Not that it's still not an IM with an AG start, but it definitely takes away from the whole swim experience.

Well, at every IM there is an "Age Group" start with different colored caps from the pros and between male or female.  Maybe that is what they meant by "wave starts"?

I emailed them a bunch of questions and they told me it wasn't a wave start. Somce of the info was taken from the Cancun 70.3 website and they need to correct it. Still i am heading down there in 10 days for the Cancun 70.3 and i will chat with the RD (same RD as the IM Coz) and ask all this again. if you guys have specific questions let me know

I got this number from ST- it's from last Thursday (9/11).  It looks like there aren't a lot of slots left and they're going pretty quick!

The word on the other site from the RD is that there are only 50 slots left as of Monday and they are expecting to sell out by the end of the week.

Does anyone know if the Ironman races held in other countries offer community fund slots as well? Did not see anything on their website.

I didn't see anything on the website for community slots- not sure how that works with international races.  I'm sure you can email the race director though to check.  He's really good about answering emails!

This is not an NA Sports event, so no community slots.
