Brooks fun Tri Race 4 Portarlington - Duathlon

View Member's Race Log

Supersprint

Sunny
Total Time = 47m 26s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 18-29
Age Group Rank = 90/182
Pre-race routine:

Portarlinton's a 1.5hr drive from Melbourne, so we drove down yesterday to register and set up camp for the night. Upon registering we found out that the EPA had deemed the bay unsuitable for swimming due to the heavy rains and storms we had last week so our tri was now a duathlon. A 500m run had replaced our 300m swim.
Event warmup:

After a horrible sleep I woke up well before alarm time, got a museli bar down easily and rode 3 min from the camp ground to transition.
Run
  • 02m 57s
  • 0.5 kms
  • 05m 54s  min/km
Comments:

I didn't want to go out too hard (I wouldn't know how) this paid off just. There were a few chics I was able to pass cos they did start too hard.
What would you do differently?:

Run training. Enter a duathlon if I really desired!!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Oops I forgot to undo the velcro on my bike shoes
What would you do differently?:

Prepare my shoes properly!
Bike
  • 24m 56s
  • 10 kms
  • 24.06 km/hr
Comments:

The velco done up on my bike shoes meant getting my feet into my shoes was harder than it should have been! Riding along and shocked to see my cadence actually working, it was fun to play with that for a while! I've had the 'puter on my bike for a good few months now and gave up on it ever working. Passed lots of people on the bike as per usual and felt good.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my velcro is undone. Aim for a race pace of 30+/hr I kind of forgot today because it got a little hilly.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Probably got out of my shoes a touch too early, difficult to see where dismount was due to hills beforehand. There was no space left to rack my bike so I wasted a little time and racked it over someone else's bike - bad form.
Run
  • 19m 33s
  • 3 kms
  • 06m 31s  min/km
Comments:

Passed a total of 4 people while all those that I passed on the bike and many others passed me on the run. I caught up to a girl running my speed and we pushed each other the last km. I couldn't pick it up enough to stick with her but did sprint the finish.
What would you do differently?:

The past few races have proven to me that running not swimming really is my weakest leg. I need to train train train. I was aiming for 5.50/min kms and didn't get close.
Post race
Warm down:

What warm down??? Hung around to cheer Christine & Kris on as well as assorted TriBal members

What limited your ability to perform faster:

As usual: talent! Lack of run training has definitely reared its ugly head!

Event comments:

The mini race was definitely more challenging than others but most enjoyable. Its a tough sprint course, but I look forward to stepping up to it next year! Disappointed that T1 and T2 times were not provided seperately.

Driving an hour and a half and camping over night for a race is very keen. Good effort!!

Good to see that running practice is showing results with you passing people and sprinting to the line. Keep at it.

Bring some of your rain up to Brissie.

Paul.

Well done Casie!!!
We were there also - my husband entered the gatorade - he was pretty pissed off at the lack of swim leg - looked like a tough course too all in all. You did really well - your cycling is going great guns
Hubby DNF as he wasn't well and probably shouldn't have even started the race but we also did the overnight stay etc and made a bit of a weekend of it - nice part of the world really.
Are you doing the St Kilda Splash?
