I prefer it.  I like the kind with the metallic looking lenses, whatever that's called.  If you're swimming backstroke, figure out which direction the sun is less in your eyes.  I wear speedo vanquisher, in pink of course.

I think it helps.  I have clear Vanquishers for indoor pools & overcast days and red mirrored Vanquisher Pluses for OWS's on sunny days.

I have raced with and without tinted lenses, and I'll never race open water without them again. Same principle as sunglasses, eliminate squinting, improve spotting, more relaxed overall.

The Speedo Vanquisher serves me well.

Cheers

Big fan of tinted goggles (actually, they are mirrored)! I currently wear Speedo Air Seal XR Mirrored. Living in So. FL all of my swim training is done outdoors, year-round. I did purchased a pair of clear goggles for a lake tri (brown water) on the advice of the tri director and they did serve me well for that particular race; however, I have absolutely no use for them during training. The mirrored/tinted version really help keep the glare down.
