After all the hard work leading up to your race, do you do anything as a treat for a job well done?

I ask this as I lay on the couch exhausted from my tri this morning

I eat and drink whatever they are serving at the post race BBQ with an emphasis on beer and ice cream. but this is only my first year so perhaps i'll wisen up in future years since the approx 1:15-:30 it take me to complete a sprint tri does not burn any where near as many calories as a bannana split washed down with a bunch of beer. but I heard calories don't count if you swim, bike and run on the same day.

1.  I have yet to do a tri where I did not take at least a 2 hour nap that afternoon.

2.  Heck yeah, treat yourself!  Whatever it is for you....eating junk and a lot of it, a massage, doesn't matter.  It takes a lot of training to get where you did, 1 day of indulgence won't make a difference.

I usually care less about what I eat that day.  Naps are also included for race day.

Definitely treat yourself - you earned it!  I generally eat whatever I want for a couple days and get a massage the day after the race.  Sometimes I take off work the day afterwards as well so I can sleep as much as I need to and just let my body rest.

I've only done two races.  After my first, which was in Vegas with friends, we got in the pool and jacuzzi, had an early dinner, which was more fattening than usual and was soooo tired I went to bed early after a little gambling in the casino.

My last race was only 1 1/2 hours from home so after checking out of the hotel, came home, told my husband all about it, called a few friends then took a 5 hour nap and my husband treated me to a high calorie dinner and ice cream.

After each race, I didn't work out for a bout 3 days.  I haven't treated myself to any more than that.  I did treat myself to a new pair of Running Shoes yesterday.

Yup. After my 1st 5K I "rewarded" myself with a running visor for my next 5K. Baby steps people.

I ran my 1st Tri today and have been planning the "treat" for a while now. It was made very well know that we would be stopping on the way home for a Jack in the Box Ultimate Cheeseburger. I haven't eaten at J.I.B in 5 months since I embarked on my lifestyle/wellness change and I probably wont eat there again until after the Greenville Tri next year. Boy did it taste good though. 1300 calories of recovery baby! That's minus the fries too!

It did put me in an "after lunch coma" though complete with muscle twitches.

After my last race, I stopped by Yum Yum donuts in Quakertown (to get donuts for the office, I swear!).  As I was going in, wearing my race t-shirt (I always change into the race shirt after a race), I saw another guy leaving, wearing the same shirt.

But, boy, a chocolate thunder donut, washed down with chocolate milk really hit the spot, pre-nap.

It's usually pizza and beer for me shortly after the race, and then being a lazy butt for the rest of the day.

My first tri is September 13th.  If I really enjoy it (which I'm sure I will), I'm planning on getting a tri tattoo on my calf.  It'll be my first tattoo and a reminder of the training and elation of my tri experience... and an awesome tattoo to boot!

Hot dogs are GOOD after a race. Replenishes the salt

I asked a doctor, one time, what he does to recover after an IM. He stated "I have two beers and go to bed".

After all my races my first treat has been a ridiculously long nap.  I have a bad habit of falling asleep before eating and waking up ravenous and then having a horribly unhealthy meal - usually pancakes or Mexican, lol.

After each "A" race, I treat myself to a cold ...

...plain brown paper bag optional.  Thousands of street aristocrats cannot be wrong!

This is the liquid that got me college and drinking it brings me back to those halcyon days.  Plus, like Billy D says "... nothing works a thirst like malt liquor."

You guys are all waaaay too good on the diet thing....I treat myself for each completed training session, each sign up for a tri that I complete, and then REALLY treat myself after a race. (ok, so I am not the best at following the nutrition plan.....rationalizing is effing awesome for the palate)

Post-race, I hit the closest convenience store and buy a bag of Combo's cheeze food filled pretzels and a regular Coke. It's a craving w/ me.

If you want to get a long massage after a race (longer than services offered at larger race), when is the best day to do it?
