Subject: IM Repeat offenders

Just becuase I have nothing better to do tonight, I decided to see how many people are doing IMKY this year that also did it last year.  I put the 2007 finishers list in Excel and then appended the list with 2008 participants/  I then sorted the list to find "unique" entires (only on the list once).  The differnce in the unique list and the combined list are the people on the list twice....and this is the number of people who are doing the race a second time...that is, if my logic is right.

Anyway, I came up with 226 people signed up to race IMKY for a second time.

I was kinda suprised that this number was so low.  I did a local spring tri 5 years in a row, 6 times total.  I did the same marathon 4 times.  I guess I figure if I find a race I like, why look further?  :-)

Maybe I'm the exception rather than the norn.  I'm about 74.3% sure I'll do it next year too....and maybe the year(s) after that.  I've thought about doing a different IM but this one is close and easy to get into....and I really like the course, so why look for a different race?

I suppose there are a great number of people who will do an IM and go back to shorter distances and never do another one.  And then there are people who want to try different venues.

What are your thoughts about repeating a race?

~Mike

Would someone please take Mike's keyboard away from him until we hit September!

Good luck, ain't gonna happen!! And just think, as he tapers, he'll only have more nervous/ interesting energy! : O

And to your question Mike, I think the "repeat offenders" are the unusual and amazing ones. After making this journey that I have not yet completed, I cannot imagine repeating it anytime soon. Granted, I haven't finished and felt that sense of pride that must come from the actual event. However, it has taken so much out of me mentally that it's not something I imagine doing again for quite sometime. Maybe my opinion will change by midnight on the 31st, but I'll just have to wait and see.

While I'm sure I will one day do another IM, I'm pretty sure I'd be a single man if I signed up for another next year.

My wife has been incredibly supportive, but I don't think she would go for 2 years in a row.

My husband has purchased a tshirt he will wear during our stay in Panama City prior to Ironman Florida. It reads:

140.6 miles until I get my wife back

Enough said!! I agree with you...if I sign up for another Ironman, I think he will ditch me...

This will be #3 IM WI in a row for me this year and that is enough for that venue for now...doing IM CDA next year.  I'm sure I'll go back to Moo some day since its so darn convenient living only 4 hours away and it is a great venue.

I did IMWI last year and am addicted to the distance. IMKY this year as well as B@B then IMLP naxt year and will probably make that an annual "Fun" race that the family can go to.

Unfortunately, all of my triathlons fall on horse show weeks and my family has not gotten to see very many races. It was a little depressing not having them there last year at IMWI but there were enough BTers there to fill the void!!

I did IMWI last year and got addicted to the distance.  Like Bob, I'm turning around 9 weeks after KY and racing another Ironman (IMFL, for me).

I'm thinking Ironman Cozumel for next year.

My husband should probably get this same shirt! He was commenting the other day about this.... that he was ready to have his wife back... I'm just happy he wants me BACK! I've been a tired girl on the weekends these past months!

Well he is in taper mode and his choices were slim. Solve world peace, figure out pie 3.14...., or find out how many repeat offenders at IMKY.

I think we can all say he made the correct choice Wink
