What do those of you with disc wheels, or wheels covers, do for a cyclometer since the rear spokes are covered?

I glued a magnet to my Tri Spoke, bought a package of magnets from home depot for three bucks...

JeepFleeb - 2008-08-18 10:54 AM Magnet + super glue =

Whether a front or back wheel, I prefer using epoxy rather than super glue.  Super glue (cyanacrolate) has great tensile strength, but relatively weak shear (sideways) strength, meaning that it can get easily knocked off if something hits it.

I used 5-minute epoxy to glue the magnet on my HED front tri-spoke - don't think it's ever coming off...

Rare Earth Magnet (K&J Magnetics has various sizes), and "mounting squares" that can be bought at any hardware or craft store.

Go to Radio Shack.

They sell little disc magnets (about 1/2" in dia.) and thick double sided tape pads.  I stacked about 3 of the magnets and wrapped electrical tape around them, the you use the real sticky double sided tabs on the bottom, trim the tape up and stick it to the disc.  Voila .......

"thick double sided tape pads"

Those are "mounting squares". The ones fromthe craft store need to be trimmed as well.

Thanks for the replies.

Just wanted to let you know that I decided to throw the wheel (I'm using a cover) in the bike tonight and give it a spin. Luckily I didn't have to adjust the sensor to clear the cover so it picks up the magnet on the spoke through the cover. That NEVER happens to me!

But given your history with cyclometers malfunctioning in races it's bound to not pick up the next time you race.
