Bob 2194 Binghamton, NY | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship tbatt - 2008-08-21 2:37 PM HEED rocks! I train very well with Hammer products. Its very easy on my stomach and it took Musselman triathlon to prove to me that I'd have a better race because of it. Yummy shtuff But you also enjoy Yeungling! Oh yea, it's a top shelf beer in Florida! |

Member 239 Apex, NC | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship 66 days left, according to BikeCycles countdown clock. Week 14 of 24 is in the books. Long ride of 4.5 hours and long run of 2:20 this week. Just hit some milestones on the year last week of 500 miles running and 100,000 yards swimming. Should hit 2,000 miles on the bike this week. If I can get used to the wetsuit and stay injury free... |

Extreme Veteran 353 Randleman, NC | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship I am trying to get the training back on track myself. A week in Brazil and the following week in Atlanta is a good break but not one you want when training for the iron distance! HEED is good stuff but you can't mix it too strong. I have to keep it about 1 scoop per 9-10 oz water. ANy stronger than that and "bubbles" start to form if you know what I mean. Anybody have plans to use Perpetuem on the bike course? I was wondering about freezing the 2nd bottle as Hammer recommends but have never tried it. |

Regular 99 Lexington, SC | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship Training has gone from great to not so good really quickly. I've had some knee issues come up that have kept me from running long that I think I've worked through (keeping fingers crossed). However, I went down on some loose gravel on a ride Sunday afternoon and ended up with a good bit of road rash. The open wounds and sore shoulder from impact will keep me out of the water for a week or so, but other than that I should be able to resume riding and building my running volume. As soon as my palms heal up so I can hold the bar without pain, I should be able to ride on the road, until then it will be all trainer riding. I just glad I was able to walk away without any serious injury to me or the bike. Stay safe out there. |

I was thinking what am I going to do with my sunglasses. Do I put them in the transistion bag? Can I leave them on my bike with my helmet or does my helmet go in the transistion bag and somebody will bring our bike to us? |

Closer to the end of the year they will post the date of when each event opens for registration. I think both the half and full sold out in less than 2 weeks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ NO, both took more than a month to sell out. |

I admit I am talking from my memory but what I remember they took more than that to sell out specially the half. It's the top news entry. The one dated 1/14. With registration opening on 1/2 and being full by 1/14, I'd call that less than two weeks. There's also this thread: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=100266&start=19 Half sold out on 1/11, full sold out by 8:30 am on 1/14. |

Expert 1205 Herndon VA | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship Training updates - Mine's going well. 2 100+ mile rides in the last few weeks plus 2 runs over 15 miles. Nothing important has fallen off and my times are coming down. I am ready to start tapering but still a couple of weeks away. Travel stuff - Anybody interested in a BT get together? I don't get in until Thursday afternoon but I am planning on going to the athlete dinner. We could meet there or a Friday lunch maybe. Anyone know if they'll have a sponsored swim on Friday. I only want to swim for 10 minutes or so. Mostly to check out the wetsuit. Any thoughts? Ernie |

Veteran 141 Greensboro, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship I am soon going to find out how my training has been going. I have been hitting all the key longer workouts. I find it a bit difficult to get in all the smaller workouts my training plan has. I do as many as I can. I have a 16 mile run done and a few 14 milers. Going to do an 18 mile run next week along with a 100+ bike ride. I have been above 70 miles on the bike the past few weeks. I rode 88 Wednesday in the brutal wind. Man I hope there isn't wind on November 1st. I plan on going to the dinner Thursday night. I haven't heard anything about a pre race swim. I hope they have one though. |

Member 239 Apex, NC | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship Training update: We'll see after the weekend. This should be my first century ride on Saturday, followed by a 2.5 mile run on Sunday. Then a blessed recovery week. I felt ready a week or so ago, but it has been very difficult getting training in of late. It's that darned work thing getting in the way. In the summer I could ride before work, but now the sun doesn't come up until it is too late. Plus, it is getting darker earlier, so midweek rides are getting shorter rather than longer. I think the nutrition plan is nailed down. Just gotta get in a few more long rides and runs and it should be good. The 2 mile swim today went just fine and that part of it should be ready to go. |

I think I would be too cold in just a tri suit. Mel I'll probably use the same plan as Lake Placid last year. I'll have arm warmers for the bike and have a long sleeve shirt in my T2 bag and SN bag. I ended up not needing the long sleeve shirt but it stayed light til 9. I'll bring a bunch of cold weather stuff and decide the night before the race. Ernie |

Regular 70 Wilmington | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship In case people have not herd, the bike route has had to be modified slightly due to DOT bridge work. I got the following e-mail from the shop that is doing the tech support. "Here is the latest b2b course. still a little different on the far upper end in 2 places. Check out Harrells closely. jim the full http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/nc/wrightsville-beach/745... the 1/2 course http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/nc/wrightsville-beach/196... " Nothing major, but I thought I would share. I hope everyone's training is going well. I had an 6 hour Solo MTB race this weekend that went really well considering I trained through it without any taper. I had an outside chance at top 5, but both of my cleat bolts came out just past hour 5 on one shoe and I had to limp the rest of the lap back to the pit. Yet another thing to check that I had not thought of... check the cleat bolts on the road shoes before Nov 1. I only have two more long runs which will more than likely destroy me mentally since I don't have enough miles in, but not much I can do now fitness wise, just got to get to the line healthy. Good luck all! Mark |

Member 239 Apex, NC | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship Thanks for the update Mark. Looks like a few more turns than there used to be. I hear you on the cleat thing. I had one fall off during a last minute tune-up ride the day before Hy-Vee last year. Fortunately, I had time to fix it before the race rather than during. But maybe some extra cleat screws would be good to keep in the bike bag. |

Extreme Veteran 353 Randleman, NC | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship Unless something freaky occurs the temps on 1 Nov. should be in the mid- 70's in Wilmington/eastern NC. It could be cool in the morning when we first start on the bike - I would guess mid-50's. The funny thing about our coast is we could have a high of 80 that day or a high of 60. Pay close attention to the weather early that week! |

Member 239 Apex, NC | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship I spent some time at Kure Beach last year at about that time. When I was there it was cold, like in the 40s. But a week later, the highs were around 80. So, bring it all and sort it out the night before the race. |
