Subject: Garmin 301 - does anyone have this model?

If so, what do you think?  I've found it online for a very reasonable $99.99.   Any input would be great. Thank you.

I had the 201 (no HR) before upgrading to the 305 and it worked well. I ended up getting the 305 for around $160 and like it better than the 201 specially since it is only $60 more than you can get the 301 for, but I am sure you will be more than happy with the 301.  Just make sure to shop around.  You might be able to find a cheap one used on Ebay.

I have and have used extensively the 301 since December 2005. Overall, I've been satisfied with it's performance even with the flaws that it has. It's bigger than the 305, and doesn't get the reception that the latter model gets (though I've never had reception problems). Currently I'm having HRM difficulties and trying to decide if it's the chest strap, the battery, or the unit. But overall I've been happy with it.

If I had to buy another one today, though, I would get the 305 if you can find it at that $160 price. You can compare the two units on the Garmin site .

I would also prefer the 305 to the newer 405 because IMHO you lose some functionality with the 405 to gain a smaller size and wireless interface with the PC.

i have the 301, use it quite often, but a few things about it. it takes awhile to find a signal sometimes and runnng under trees / riding in a dense forest will make the gps lose its signal


otherwise its good to go

I have the 301 and have been extremely pleased with it.  I did have some HRM issues in the beginning but Garmin swapped things out and took care of it.
