And if you clamp an aluminum frame in a bike stand, you will more than likely crush it, so may as well toss it as well .......

I have a carbon road bike and an aluminum tri bike.  The most imprtant thing I would stress is getting a professional fitting done.  No matter what the frame is made of; if the bike is uncomfortable or if your body position is not right, then you will not get the most performance gain.
