Ironman Rhode Island

Last year was the first year. Overall everyone seemed to like it, I was a volunteer. There were slots available almost until a week before for the event. However there is more time this year to plan, it will probably sell out, because there are almost no Ironman branded races on the east coast.

I liked it - it was very well organized the day of the race - the bike course was open to traffic but they did a great job with traffic control. Run is an out and back (x2) course with a STEEP hill at mile 1/7. The race packet p/u and bike drop off was frustrating. You have to pick up your packet in Providence then drive your bike 1 hr. away to T1 and leave it overnight then make the trip back up to Providence (we stayed there anyway). The packet p/u took over 2 hrs. and it was just a long, long day.... We were kinda leary about the organization of race day after the fiasco of packet pick up but we were pleasantly surprised. Plenty of volunteers, food, drinks, sponges, etc....
