I want to get a set of hand paddles to swim with. Any recommendations or comments on what to stay away from?

Stay away from the ones with a wrist strap.  If you don't have it locked into your wrist, you can tell if you're cutting your stroke short by your hip.  Contoured is better too, but that's just a personal opinion.

I've tried a few, and the ones I've liked the best (and use now) are the ones from Finis.

I'm going out on a limb here and say don't use them at all. If you want to try some out, just borrow some at the pool. I don't use them at all anymore.

If you are using them for freestyle the Finis are good, they will help you train without hurting a shoulder. I liked them because you could get a great entry with them without them flopping aroung like normal paddles do. I do use TYR paddles to strengthen my pull for other strokes though.

These are great for teaching a great catch with high elbow. Otherwise, they flop around too much. They have not been too much a strain on the shoulders for me either.

I was actually looking to buy some hand paddles but I was considering the TYR Mentor Hand Paddles. Anyone have any info on these?
