My 6 year old did her first tri today! Not only did she do her tranistion all by herself while other kids parents were literally getting them dressed, she apparently ran into the parks department 4 wheeler on her bike, but got up and kept going (in talking to someone after the race, she was the talk of the volunteers Laughing). Then on the run, she turned up the juice with about 200 meters to go to pass another little girl and finish strong! Most importantly, she had fun and said she would totally do it again.

My little champ...or should I say my little prodigy?

That is such a great story. I have a 5 year old and would be so stoked if he was doing triathlons next year. Here's to the proudest mummy in the world right now

That's SO cool.  I teach first grade, and I can't picture any of my kids doing a triathlon!!

Can I join in on these tris? The 45-49 age group is way too competitive. I know I can beat 5 & 6 year olds.

My triplet 7 year old girls are in training too.  WE all swam together this morning. I'm planning on their first one next summer since the West Point is already sold out.  They are also not strong enough on the bike since they just learned to ride this summer.  (Take it from a Mom who just learned to ride a bike a month ago and is preparing for her first tri). Kudos to her for the crash and recovery!  Way to teach her to be so tough!

Thus far my 7yo has done a tri and a 5k this year, the tri was a kids tri and she finished 2nd in her AG.  the 5k was a full blown adult 5k, and although she won her 0-14yo AG by default, she still beat some other people in the race.  41 minute 5k, not to shabby at 7 years old

Why are parents pushing their kids to be like them?

That's great!  The best part was reading that she said that she had fun!
