Subject: Clean up after the race is over?
Seems like I remember someone saying something about having a family member/ friend get your bike before the race is over so you don't have to walk back to transition. Is that correct and what other things should I consider in my post race plan for "cleaning up" all the transition bags and gear?

Yes, you can give a family member a ticket to get your bike and bags for you. The ticket will be in the packet with your race number.

HTFU and grab your own gear like I did last year at IM Moo.  Unless of course you crashed or are in the med tent getting an intravenous.

Sue went to pick up my stuff after IMWI last year while I sat there.  The line for non-athlete pick up was long b/c they were only letting so many people in at a time. 

I just strolled in and got it and then she took my bike from me.  

It helps if your "picker-upper" volunteered and has a Transition shirt.  They can just walk in and grab out stuff then show your ticket on the way out.
