Subject: need a b-day dinner restaurant

My friend and I have the same birthday and we're working on planning a joint birthday dinner for next weekend.  It's my job to pick the restaurant and i'm having a heck of a time coming up with anything.  I hardly ever go out to eat, and it seems like when I do it's always to the same places.  Unfortunately my friend doesn't like my very favorite spot (Rodizios) so I need some new ideas.  Pretty much anything goes as long as it's not too super pricey.  Also, does anyone know if downtown is still expected to be crazy next weekend with all the convention stuff?

Thanks!

Ever tried The Melting Pot? Different and delicious! And I wouldn't try downtown next weekend...

All of these are very well reviewed and on my to try list if I haven't made it there yet. Fruition, Vesta Dipping Grill, Osteria Marco, Rioja, Limon, Zengo, Mizuna and Tamayo.

My wife and I went to The Cork House for our annivesary last month, and it was really good.  Their happy hour was good, I think it was 4-7pm.  They had a large wine list, and the food was really good.  The prices where the average 15-20 per plate.  Good luck.

Fruition is amazing.  Hacienda Colorado for Mexican.  Pappadeaux, McCormick's are good but the former is usually quite busy and I think a bit overpriced.

Cafe Brazil in NW Denver, small, quiet, and amazing food. My favorite for a special night.

I love The 9th Door in Lodo. Tapas and great wine. It's pretty reasonable and a great variety of dishes. It also has a great, sexy, fun vibe. Reservations are a must. Do a google search for it.

The convention will be over, but the taste of Colorado will be going on so.  So  yes, it will be crazy.  There is also the CU-CSU game at Mile High, so you know there will be lots of people partying downtown.

Just to chime in on previous suggestions:
Vespa dipping grill is delicious, and while it's a little pricey, I thought it was worth the money.

The 9th door has honey goat cheese balls that are yummy (at least I thought that was the 9th door)

Alrighty here's the long awaited restaurant report!

We were originally going to try for the Melting Pot but decided it was too far away (didn't they used to have a downtown location?), so we looked at vespa but it was too pricey for some of us, so we ended up at La Fondue downtown.  It was great!  The food was sooooooo good.  I had never had fondue before but always liked the concept (I mean what could be better than a pot of cheese at your table followed by a pot of chocolate?!)  One of my friends and I went for the full 4 course meal which was great cus it was just ongoing plates of wonderful food.  Started with the cheese course that had apples, veggies, and  some different kinds of breads...then salads, w/some of the best ceaser dressing ever.....then the entree course where we got a plate of all sorts of different meats to cook...2 different steaks, chicken, shrimp, and lobster....yum!  And finally the dessert where we got a plate with pineapple, strawberries, kiwi, bananas, pound cake, snickers, and cheesecake...of course w/a bunch of chocolate to dip it in.

Afterwards we went to Wynkoop brewery for drinks...which would not have been my first choice since i'm not a big beer drinker but they had lots of pool tables so that was cool.  I had one drink which was enough to make me a bit tipsy and sleep like a rock when I got home.  I'm such a lightweight!

Overall it was a really really great night, and I would highly recommend La Fondue.  Great atmosphere, food, and everything.   Thanks for all the suggestions and the birthday wishes!
