Hello- I haven't read much, chose not to "lurk" before introducing myself. Overweight stay at home mother of 3. I love to workout at the YMCA, enjoy playing volleyball, softball, rollerblading.... My husband & some friend have done a sprint tri near our home and I signed up this year. I enjoy the swim, bike & run, but am hopelessly frustrated with the weight issue. I was thrilled to find the beginnertriathlete site and have learned much already! The thrill of the triathalon is amazing. The thrill of seeing such varied sizes, ages, shapes crossing the finish line inspired me to join in the fun!

Hey there. Welcome to the site. Don't worry about that weight issue as long as you are burning more calories than you take in you will be fine. With the training you are going to put in along with cutting calories you will find the weight melting off. I have lost 30 pounds so far . Good luck on accomplishing your goals.

hi Marianne, welcome to the TriSpot!

I'm going to tell you my unasked for 2 ¢ regarding weight loss. I did it once successfully and am going to do it again if it kills me! It IS all about the food, no matter what anyone says, (at least for me) it is 1000% about the food. I have to find a plan I can stay on and then stay on it. That one extra bite leads to the whole carton being eaten and the plan is shot. There just aren't enough hours in the day to over-exercise away all the extra calories I could consume in a single day. First I'd suggest that you write down everything you eat. Write it down each day and track it for a week. Then you'll see some places you can start making changes.

Shoot me an email or a PM and I'll tell you exactly what is working for me, and if you don't that's ok too I'm glad to have you on the team here! You've got plenty of time to get ready for your race and you'll do great!

Hi,

I know what you mean. Started out 7 years ago as an overweight, frustrated homemaker.
But, you can do it! I have used the calories in/calories out approach. I, like trimom have kept a food diary. You would be surprised at what you don't eat because you have to put it in print. I also find that running makes me not hungry. I don't know why, but after an especially hard run my body refuses a lot of food. That's why I make sure I run every other day in addition to the other workouts.

Good Luck
Evelyn

Thanks! I have 19 weeks to my tri. Feeling overwhelmed with info right now. Been doing much research as to how to train each sport- now I just need to sit down and make a plan that works for me. I can't help but worry about fitting in my training around the needs of a family, but I will have to deal with that one workout at a time. My husband has been very supportive & even bought me a new bike a couple weeks ago.

Welcome to the board. I know you will do fine with your goals and in your first race --- especially with such a supportive husband. That will help make fitting in your training a bit more do-able also, as he assists with the kids.

Glad you found us.

Hi TriBarbie,

Welcome to the site! I'm also a newbie, and also from MN. I live in Hastings (SE of St. Paul), but my fiance's family has a cabin in Grand Rapids. Of course I can't think of the name of the lake right now (I've only been to the cabin once), and my fiance is not home at the moment. I'll have to get back to you on that! Anyway, I know there are at least three of us from MN around the boards.

Welcome to another Minnesotan!
The site is a great place full of great info and inspiration. Though sometimes the inspiration is too inspiring. I was only going to do one tri this year. But thanks to this place I am up to 3 - Buffalo, Lifetime in Minneapolis and the Northwoods in Nevis.
Good luck with yours!

Hi! I'm also new to the site, and it's helped me so much! Like you, I'm watching my wieght, and there's this amazing website I learned about from people here. It's www.fitday.com, and it allows you to track everything you eat and lets you evaluate trends in nutritional content, calorie intake, etc. You might want to check it out if you don't already know about it. Good luck to you!!
