Anyone know if MAP is available for OWS? I have a friend who needs to practice before Tugaloo in open water as she had a really bad swim experience at her last race. We live in Alpharetta and want to find someplace nearby. I read the posts about Red Top Mountain. Does anyone know where I can find more info? I tried GooglingTri2Remember, etc. and couldn't find anything about biweekly OWS.

 I'd really appreciate any info!!!

Thanks!

I went to the OWS at Redtop last week.  Here's a link to a thread http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=127040&posts=9&start=1.

Tri2remember has not posted swims for September yet.  They said, at the swim, that they're doing it every other week.  The next one should be 9/6.  I joined the e-mail group.  They should confirm in newsletter.  I'll follow up here when I hear something.

Regarding MAP, I know a few folks from the Reality Bikes tri group go out and swim on Saturday mornings there.  I've sent out an e-mail asking for details.  Will post here when I get a response.

I'd like to swim at MAP and get in a bike ride.  If you all are up for it, we could try to put something together ourselves.

How about Saturday, September 6 at 8 am?

I know a couple of folks in this forum have set up swims before.  What do we need to do?  Do we need to call the Corp of Engineers?

No need to call anybody.  Just show up, pay the park fee ($3 or $4), park near the beach, and then have at...this said, last time I was out there (fishing with my son a few months ago), water was still VERY low and the 4th buoy was still grounded....you may just end up doing laps between the other three.  I believe this is why Pete F. moved his OWS's to Red Top.

That would likely work for me, though if we are going to ride also, we may want to push back to 7:30 (Sunrise is apparently 7:15)

The park is run by City of Cumming. Because this isnt some big organized event, we shouldnt have to do anything, other then pay the 3$ entry fee. I am not sure what time the gates open

I wonder if anyone has swam there since then. This week's rain may have helped some. If it is still too low, I may plan on heading to Red Top if there is one there next weekend (9/6)

Heard on the news that the water level was only up >1' from the rain thus far ... and is anticipated to only increase 2' as the water filters down from the streams within the basin over the coming days.

It is going to take some time and a couple more tropical depressions for the lake levels back on the path towards normal.

I have swam at MAP twice this summer, last time was about 3-4 weeks ago and there is plenty of water to swim.  It's not ideal, but gets the job done.

Nope, just watch this board.  I think BT has an RSS feed you can set up, but I know nothing more about it...

I signed up for an e-mail newsletter from the tri2remember group at www.tri2remember.com  They also have a calendar on the site.
