 Front tire standPhotobucket" />

What is that item called that the front tire is sitting on in this picture? And what is an avg price for it?

Edit: I found the name of it, Cyclops stand I believe? Is this item sold separately from the trainer, and has anyone used this to train with?

Thanks

Riser block.  Price can very depending if you want a basic one or one you can change height of the front wheel. Regardless, $10-$20.

What he said.  But in response to your edit, it is sold separately. It's nice to use to you don't have the feeling of constantly cycling downwards.  Of course, getting onto the bike is a little harder, since now it is at or above crotch level, but there is not really much risk of getting thrown off.

It keeps the bike level when you are using an indoor trainer. Cycleops and Kurt Manufacturing both make them.

You can find one at your local bike shop, especially this time of year.

Yup,

Riser block.  Mine was free since I made it out of scrap wood that I already had.

Stacked 2x4's work just as well and don't cost very much.

someone at my LBS told me once that the point of the riser block is to simulate the lift that your body creates when you are biking under real conditions (which makes the front seem higher). I guess it makes sense...but it seems like a ton of lift. That being said,I have had my riser block slip out from under the wheel mid workout and it does feel weird without it there.

Anyone else ever heard that?

Huh? Lift? How about the trainer raises your back wheel off the ground and the riser block raises the front wheel so you're bike isn't slanted downwards.

Fair point. Although, I believe that my back wheel isnt off the ground that much..yet I never really checked. Fairly certain that the bike is slightly "up" versus being flat...but once I put the ol'girl back on there I will check it with a level. My guess is that the frame is a quarter to half bubble off level.

Well, my bike on my trainer is pretty level and my riser block has different height choices so I can set it to be more uphill or more level.
