Hey Guys,

Sorry, I know that some of these questions/topics have been beaten to death in the past but I couldn't find some info even after searching the forums. So, here goes:

1) I'm considering a Garmin 305 to track HR for the run and track HR, speed and cadence on the bike. Anyone out there using this unit for all those tasks? Problems or concerns I should know about?
2) Does the speed/cadence sensor mount to the rear wheel? I'll be using it on the trainer primarily.
3) I've read more than a few posts about issues getting the 305 to recognize the speed/cadence sensor. Does anyone have any information about whether this is an ongoing chronic issue?

Thanks, everyone. And again, sorry to beat a dead horse ;-)

No problems, no complaints.  I should sell these things I love mine so much.  I will never train again without one unless someone can come up with one that is truly waterproof and has a longer battery.

I would love one that is the size of a normal watch that I could wear all the time but really doubt that is possible in the near future.

If you have the $$ get it you won't be sorry.

Sensor does mount to the rear wheel so it is perfect for the trainer.  Just remember you speed will not exactly replicate the speed on the road.  I generally take mph/miles with a grain of salt.  I did have some trouble getting everything lined up be in general it works pretty good.

Sweet, thanks for the input.

Regarding speed, I just want the speed as a guide and so I can guesstimate distance so I'm not too worried about it being perfect.

No problems.  That is what I do.  Sometimes I don't even look at it and just go by time and then enter an estimate to BT.

Good, glad to know I'm not trying something new ;-)

One other question, is the speed/cadence sensor easy to install?

Yep.  There are 3 parts.  One zip ties to the crank arm.  One zip ties to the frame and then the wheel magnet screws on.  The toughest part is getting them all lined up and making sure they don't touch.  I have very little wiggle room before the magnet hits the sensor and then I hear a click every revolution of the wheel.

Good thing I found this thread, I almost started a new one, as I wanted some information on this watch too.

http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=GRFR305

Couple questions:

1) How big is the face?

2) When you just run/bike with it on your wrist, it measures:  speed, distance, heart rate?  Or does it require extra sensors on your chest like some HR monitors?

Does it sync with computers at all?

Regarding your question about the speed sensor recognition.... I have 3 sensors on 3 different bikes and have used the sensors with both a 305 and a 705. No problems other than I have to periodically have the 305 or 705 scan for the sensor periodically (like once a month and I ride everyday).  The scan is a setting you choose in the 305/705 under accessories.  If the 305/705 doesnt pickup the sensor then just do the scan.  Talking to other guys at Garmin I've been told that none of them have seen any issues with the sensors.

Super easy to install, works great.
The 305 is the first bike compter I've had with a cadence sensor, and it is great to have in training. I don't have the biking backbround to feel the difference all the time between 75 and 90, especially never having had a cadence sensor to get that input from in the first place.
get the 305 and buy the cadence/speed sensor, you won't be sorry.
