Subject: Spinergy Rev X vs Hed 3 Race Wheels

Yes I know that the HED 3's are one of the best front race wheels you can buy, and it is hard to compare it to the lesser expensive Rev X.......however, it is hard to compare my bank account with that of Bill Gates so what is the biggest difference in these two wheels.

I am going with a Disc Cover on my rear wheel, and need a decent wheel up front......would a deeper dish aero wheel be as good or better than either the Rev X or HED 3.

I am racing in a HIM (B Race) and IM (A Race) and both are relatively flat straight courses.  I thought about renting but since I would want to rent for both races, I think I can come out better financially with a disc cover and a decent front wheel via ebay.

Suggestions Welcome

Go with a used Hed 3 off ebay.  You won't be sorry and there is nothing better.

Biggest difference? It'd be a toss-up between the Hed 3's having a HUGE advantage in aerodynamics, or the Hed 3's having a HUGE advantage in durability.

There's a reason that the Rev-X's are no longer made.

I would stay away from Rev X's. There are more aero wheels and much safer ones too.

I had a set of Rev X and my best speeds were on the rev x's I now have  a zipp 404 clone and like them better as they are lighter and more areo.  The rev x's are a great wheel if they are in very good condition any cracls or big chips will render them unsafe this is based on what I have read and been told.  Spinergy will still give ya a discount on new wheels if ya have a set of rev x's to turn in.   I spoke to a guy who is real big in wheel development  he said the rev x's got a bad rap but they are not good at high speeds 26+  you will be speed limited on the down hills and if pushing real hard on flats, uphill well they are heavy so the bottom line is the Hed 3 and the Spinergy rev X do not belong in the same discussion unless it is a historical one.  I say if ya can get it cheap sub 100 and it is in perfect condition, and you average less than 21 mph get the rev X other wise look for a different wheel.

Can you explain what happens at higher speeds to the Rev X? Do you get a death wobble or something of the sort?
