Hey,

On the days that I hit the gym at 6am to do weights and only weight I usually have the following pre-workout breakfast: 2 pieces of whole what bread, 1 whole egg, & 1 cup of egg whites which totals to 420 calories, 42g carbs, & 42g protein. I don't have time to go home after the gym as I have to go straight to work so as my post-workout meal all I have is either a clif bar or my protein shake or sometimes both. If I could I would switch the pre workout meal with the post workout meal and vice versa but due to time I cannot.
Is that too much food in the morning prior to my workout?
What does everybody else eat prior to going to the gym in the morning for their weight training?

I can't say whether your pre and post-workout meals are too much food...I think everyone is different and has different needs and requirements when it comes to fueling up before and post-workouts. I generally eat the same breakfast (pre-workout) every single day - 1 slice of 100% wheat toast spread (I prefer Brownberry Double Protein) with natural peanut butter and 1 8oz cup of Weight Watchers yogurt with a heaping teaspoon of ground flaxseed and a teaspoon of Kashi 7-Grain Nuggets cereal mixed in. That is enough to fuel me through my 3-hour gym workout that includes cardio, weight training, ab work, and stretching.

How long do you lift?   How do you feel while you are lifting and after?  Do you have enough energy.  Are you famished afterwords, or do you feel good still?

For me, If I'm doing a long workout I try to eat my full breakfast (eggs and a bowl of cereal with blueberries and milk)  If it's a short work out I just have some miniwheats and a glass of water.  Depends on the intensity of the work out as well.

Like mentioned above, it really depends on how you feel. I for one eat too much before I go to bed, so I really don't need much to fuel my 45-min workouts in the morning. I will usually wake up to an whole wheat english muffin with PB and banana. Sometimes oatmeal/cereal/yogurt combos. It's after the workout when meal is big. Usually in the 500-700 calorie range with lots of protein.

I ran a minimum of 9 miles every morning this summer and I would wake up at 4 am and eat a caffeinated Detour power bar and a banana and go back to bed.  Wake up at 5:15 and set out for my run and at mile 2 have a GU and I was set.  Now I wake up and swim instead due to it being dark now and just have a Muscle Milk protein powder, milk, with yogart, banana, shot of expresso, and big scoop of peanut butter and ice.  I have the same Muscle milk drink for a pre-work with weights also.  Cannot run with a protein drink sloushing in my stomach though.

I eat 4 pancakes and a banana.  One hour later I start riding.  After 45-55 minutes of riding I drink 8-12 oz of gatorade.  Perfect meal for my 30 mile rides.
