I'm not sure, going to wing it and find something around Michigan City. I'm going up with another family and we are going to go to the outlet malls, zoo, and may the gambling boat on Sat. I'm doing the short course 1000/18.6/5 which race are you guys doing?

Last look Water temp was 70.

I'm doing the short course, as is crowny, if I remember correctly.  Staying in Chi suburbs.  So far the weather forecasts look perfect for race day.

How about that water Sunday? That was the roughest swim I have every done, I just tried to survive. The bike course has to be the roughest I have every been on also, someone told me there were 14 railroad crossing on each lap, thank goodness I only did one lap.

HOLY CRAP ya!

Ok...I actually thought the "along the shore" segment of the rectangle swim route was the hardest because I kept rocking from side to side.  I actually started to get a wee bit sea sick.  The part swimming out to sea was not too bad and the part towards the lighthouse seemed strangly easier than swimming "with" the waves.  I did two laps in about 52 minutes compared to my normal 1.2 miles time is usually about 38 minutes.

The bike route, excuse me, sucked!!!  Cracks, bad road repair jobs, speed bump type bumps and YES railroad tracks.  Holy cow.  Two laps of that had me feeling the pain in my neck.  The thing I kept thinking was that I had seen several "LaPorte county bikeways" signs which leads me believe it must be a "bike friendly commuity" and there MUST be better roads somewhere.  What about the steep downhill with a 90 degree turn with mud and sand at the bottom?  I thought the volunteers did a great job warning people ahead of time to go slow...actually at several intersetions.....except one.....a teenager had gotten back in her car and when she saw me coming, she stayed in her car and I went the wrong way until she got out and hollered at me.

And was that a nuclear reactor?  That's what I called it, but I don't really know.

The run route I think would have been a little better for me mentally if they had left it as an out and back because when I got to the transition area only to have to turn around and do it again, it was hard.....I know...HTFU......

Well, I finished.....it wasn't pretty or fast, but I finished......won my age group, but I think  was the only one in my age group.......my husband says not to look at it that way.

I would conside doing it again if they change the bike route.

Kudos to you! anyone that did two laps of that is a hero in my book, I'm not sure if I could have made it two times around. I was thinking to myself this must be what it feels like in a washing machine, I keep waited for the waves to spin me for a complete 360. Why didn't you do one out and back on the run? The map showed it being out and back, I didn't realize this until my wife told me going home that they did two laps for the long course run.

That reactor reminded me of the Simpsons, not sure if it is nuclear or not but it was chucking out a lot of smoke.

see you in Peru this week.

I just caught during the pre-swim instructions that, due to the large number of people, they had decided the make the run a two-loop course.  I was half-way listening and half-way wondering if the guys who set the buoys had gotten a little over zealous.....that's all I caught about the reason why they changed the run.

Not sure I'm going to be able to do Mississinewa (is that what you're talking about when you say Peru?).  I'd like to, I was 3rd in my AG last year, but I have a rehearsal at 12:00, so I may punt.

I'm in for Mississinewa on Saturday, looks like my last race of the season. See you guys there! Haven't had to use my wet suit since May!

We are doing this race too this weekend! Very excited! Not looking forward to the potential of rain though, especially on bike. I called the Core of Engineers this morning and they said the water temp is 21.8 degrees Celsius- about 70 degrees. Guess I get try out my new wetsuit! WooHoo!!

Good luck!

Relative newbie here, only two sprints under my belt.  I'll be in Peru this weekend, but reading these posts I hadn't even considered a wetsuit.  I just assumed the water temp would be pretty good this time of year.  So my question, for 70 degree water and a swim time of 11-13 minutes, do I need to go rent a wetsuit for Saturday?  Or can I just HTFU and be fine?

The last two years of this race I didn't use a wet suit and was fine. It has been colder this year, I think 70 is ok without a wet suit, it will be chilly but if I'm not mistaken the Olympic swimmers like the water around 73-75 degrees. Since your not going to be out there very long you should be ok, just may want to get use to it before starting so you don't get shocked by it being a little chilly.

I'm debating on how to race this weekend. I am actually burned out, but my training times this week have been great. Was thinking about just cruising...but then I've been 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in my age group all year, so maybe I should push this last race.

This is my last race of the season, I'm giving it everything I've got, plus I have some rival friends doing it, when I cross the line I should just drop. Should be fun hopefully the weather won't be too bad.

I was signed up for the Mighty Miss (unfortunately paid in advance) but went down pretty hard on the bike yesterday and my side is pretty raw and my shoulder is sore.  I doubt I will do it now.  I hope you have an awesome race.Smile

I would skip it, the chance of infection is very high, not worth the risk.

That's kind of what I was thinking, its probably too fresh for the lake.  I will miss you all and hope you have a great weekend.  Its gonna be damp but still should be able to get some miles in.
