Subject: Garmin Forerunner 305 Connection Issues
For a bit now it seems like when I would plug my Garmin unit into its cradle it would not connect to my computer. I would just pop it out and reset into the cradle and everything was fine. This morning, I can not get it to connect whatsoever.  Any ideas?

is the battery completely dead? If so try to charge it a little first in the wall outlet.

Take an eraser and clean the 4 dots in the back.

Are you using the same USB port on your computer?

Lastly email the customer service they are great

Try a full reset... you'll have to google to get the right buttons, it's like "On" and "Enter" at the same time or something like that

do you get an error message?  Twice now, I have gotten a "problem communicating with device" or something like that.  I take it out of the cradle, make sure the connection points are not gummed up with sweat, then it seems to work.

A computer reboot, and a reset of the Garmin may help too.

I was havings similar issues.  I kept getting a message like "cannot upload, try to connect to your pc" as if I wasn't already doing that!  I knew my unit was two years old and Garmin would not fix it under warranty so I bought a new Garmin with TrainingCenter V5.  Wouldn't you know once I uploaded it to my pc and tried the old unit it worked! The same cannot be said for uploading the new software off the site.  I had the same problem when I tried it that way.

Moral of the story, borrow someones V5 before you do anything.

PS I tried all of the other recommended fixes including resetting it and nothing worked.

I did not have an eraser but before I even read the message I was rubbing at those connectors and it synced after my run. I will try an eraser later.

No, the unit just sits there, doesnt beep, turn on and the computer acts as if nothing is plugged in.

I'm glad that you all are getting it to work.  I'm much worse off.

I have the newest software, and a fairly new device.  After about a month of use on a computer, it will lock up the software, and I can't get past the error message.  I have been through this on three different computers.  I don't anymore to even try with!

I have contacted Garmins CS several times.  I've sent them the error codes, the process, etc.  They have not been able to resolve the issue.  I have cleaned the contact, reset the device, reinstalled the software, and on and on ...

I have my last race of the year, this weekend.  After that, its going back to Garmin.

Has anyone else heard of such a complete lockdown?

I had the software issues on a single computer. Installed on a different computer and all was good for me then.

Good luck with that.  I hope it doesn't happen again.
