Subject: Switching Components
I crashed my 2005 Specialized Allez Elite Tripe in June and have just bot a 2006 Specialized Transition Comp frame.
I would like to take the components from the Allez and put them on the Trans, will this work without a hitch?
I also realize I'm being cheap, but beyond that, anything to be aware of?

Compatibility: will the old components fit the new frame? (Not familiar with either frame, so I can't tell you.)

Wear: are the components worn enough where it may be time to replace them while building up the new frame?

Expertise: Is this something you can/are going to do by yourself, or will you have your LBS do it? Do you have the tools?

I had new chain, chainrings, cassette, brake pads installed a couple weeks prior to the crash and they are all in good working order.

I will have the LBS do the building.

The triple may present some issues as I don't know if the bar end shifters needed for the Transition will accommodate the movement to three rings. Worst comes to worst, you replace the crankset with a double and have to run the shifter in friction mode unless you can find some 9 speed barcons.

Of note: the handlebars and cabling will be replaced. I have no idea if that makes a difference or not. To the post above, that was exactly ONE of my concerns was going from a bike with a triple stock to a double.
