I keep waiting for someone to post a "Kona Peeps - What's up" or "Kona Checkin" or "Kona - how is the training going" thread but guess with only a handful of people doing the race, I'll have to cheer myself on.

So since you asked, what's been going on? Well, after initially being unsure if I was even going to go, I paid up and HTFU. The training build during June, July and August was a ton of work. Everything I have read about Ironman training is true: it consumes you, you won't talk to your wife or kids, etc. My long rides are 100 milers and long runs are 18 milers. It amazes me that I do an Ironman in volume alone every week in training at this point.

Other than me changing my bike fit early in the season (and the pain associated with that), I have been healthy and injury free (mostly). My shoulder has been iffy the past few weeks but doing rotator cuff exercises and laying off the swim for a day or two helped. My swim coach thinks its a combo of swim volume (I went from just starting swimming Dec 06 to almost 13000 yards per week in under 2 years) and too much paddle work.

It's 1 month to the day away. 2 more weeks of hard living then taper time. HTFU!

PS - Happy to answer any questions you may have but I'm not taking advice unless your name is Ninja, Susan or Mike.

Woot! You're going to do great. And, yes, this close to IM...don't take any advice. Feel good in what you've done and in what your plan is!

Good luck with the next few weeks !

I plan on having a cowbell next to my laptop on Kona day...you're going to be a rock star.  Enjoy the last couple weeks of deposting funds in the bank...
