Hi everyone,

I am wondering if anyone can give me some information about the pasta dinner before the race and then the awards ceremony on Monday.  Did anyone have family attend with them?  Was it worth the extra money for them to come along?  Is one better than the other?  Any info you can give me would be great!

 Thanks!

I'm going to say that it's very subjective.  If your family thinks it would be cool to join you, then you need to think if it's worth the extra cost.

Foodwise,  the dinner was alright and the breakfast was fine, too, IMO, but the eggs I thought were needing something and were a little runny.

The awards ceremony was boring for me last year, until the final minute of the winner's speech, when he blurted out in his thick, German accent something about the "f***in' hills" - THAT was worth the cover charge!  They also played the video of the DVD that you receive.  Mike Riley is always worth listening, too.

I personally enjoyed the 07 banquet - the recognitions the videos, and mostof all hanging with those who I trained with all year.

looking forward to it in 09

but not as much as racing Moo itself

We had to wait for an hour or so to get an extra ticket for my wife for the banquet.  They ran out on site during registration.  Would I do it again?  I'm not sure if I will or not.  The presentation was good but it is really a long time to sit in folding chairs.  Mike Reilly is awesome and said a few things that acually really did help me through some really tough spots during the race.  As a first timer I would highly suggest going, but wait till 5:30 or 6:00 to get there.  Not sure if I'll go next year or not.

You better go or I am doing naughty things to your bike Sunday AM!  Myself and the Mrs are in cuz I thought she might like to see it as she sets her sights on 2011 potentially.  Besides, there will be a big Donkey contingent.

So your saying I may have a chance to meet the brains behind the Donkey Nation?  Might make it worth going just to meet the missus

Thanks guys for the donkey intrajection, but can we get back to the question?  The awards breakfast on Monday shows the video, correct?  What is the pasta dinner about?  I'm asking because you can buy tickets before hand and if it is going to be something good, I am going to do it easy.

As I stated earlier, it's subjective.

Fri. night Dinner - Carbo-load, gathering of friends/family/participants, some info about the race (some do's and don'ts), speech from the director and Mike Riley (usually some statistics stuff included), and, hopefully, Frank Farrar!

Mon. - shows the highlights of the race and highlights of volunteers, awards, top male and female winner speech, and some other stuff.

Your choice.  I didn't take my wife and kids due to A). COST and B). they don't get into this stuff like I do.

Yes, video shown Monday morning.

If its your first IM go to the pasta dinner because the athlete's meeting is right after that and the asst race directors for swim, bike, run and the medical people go thru some good information.  You can also ask questions afterwards.  Tickets for non-athletes were hard to come by this year so get them while you can.  Plus, seeing this video on a big azz screen at the dinner will get you jazzed.

I volunteered on Friday morning with registration and I can tell you that the Pasta dinner tickets were sold out early. So, if you do plan to bring anyone with you, order the tickets in advance. I wouldn't expect any to be available before the race (at least not Friday am.)
