After all this... still a lot of scattered wind/rain today on my way to the Cape Henlopen Tri. The forecast for tomorrow is promising, though...

I got out to Lewes, DE today to pick up my packet and check out the beach for a nice ocean swim before race day (I'm an OWS rookie). I got out to the beach and was met with high winds and 8-foot surf. It was kinda funny--there was this fairly long line of triathletes with their race bags walking to the beach, taking a quick look, and turning away. There were some rumblings about canceling the swim tomorrow.

I guess we'll just see what the surf/wind is like tomorrow, but this did nothing to help my anxiety about the swim...  If not, though, it'll be a fun Du.

Hehe... While it's true that most swims would be easy after that, I do enjoy this whole "living" thing I've got going on, and I'm a total rookie at ocean swims...

I hope the surf settles down too--I've been training hard for this d**n swim!

I did that race a few years back and that is the most fun 1/4 mile swim ever. Fighting your way out thru the breakers, half your wave getting tossed back to shore (I knew surfing as a kid was good for something ) then riding the waves back to shore and trying not to get planted as you scramble to your feet. Still my fastest 100y ave pace ever. They have had to cancel the swim a few times so they do have a good backup plan. Good luck and have fun.

Nothing you can do.  Go out there and have a blast, whatever it is.  Though I do think 8 ft. waves would be about the coolest tri ever....if that's the case, you need to quickly learn to love swimming under those waves!
