i'm doing an indoor tri in a couple weeks. format is 30 mins for each
(pool, spin bike, treadmill
). you can go as hard or as slow as you want during that time. i asked my mom if she had any interest and she didn't say 'no'...so i encouraged her to think about it. i checked to see if there were any spots left in the wave i'm in, and there was one left. emailed this morning to tell her. while we were out for the morning, she took it upon herself, with no further prodding from me, to call and REGISTER! woo hoo, mom! she is in good shape for her age, but only has a few weeks to get ready. she is a strong swimmer, able to swim a mile at the drop of a hat
(albeit slowly
), hikes many miles daily w/ her dog, and often spins on their stationary bike
(again, slowly, but she does it
). she's planning on taking it easy during the race - breast stroke on the swim, low resistance on the bike, walk on the treadmill - but she's still doing it! she said she'll get down to the fitness center this week to swim and try out the treadmill. an indoor tri is an ideal way to test the tri waters in many ways. she has the choice to go a shorter distance w/ less effort if she wants to. so, think positive thoughts for her.
ps. she told me not to tell anyone she's doing this, but trust me - she'll be wearing her race shirt with pride!
pps. when i asked ella if her grandma should do a tri, she said 'no, she's OLD!' so i think this will be a great example and lesson for my girls too about being active and young at heart at ANY age!
ppps. this is even further reason for my two brothers to tri now too! 'hey, MOM did it, and she's 64!'
