Subject: SOMA Course Ride - Sunday Oct 19th

So who's up for familiarizing yourself with the SOMA course on Sunday?  It's less than a 19 mile course, so we should probably do it twice.  Since I am going to try to help Paulette with a practice run on Saturday night for her 100 miler, I won't want to start at the crack of dawn.  Maybe 8 or 9 am?  Meet at the Penny Saver parking lot (the lot right next to the train track bridge on the west edge of Transition). Back up meeting spot is always Tempe Center for the Arts just west of there. So if we show up at parking spot #1 to find some festival taking up the lot, then bail and go to the arts center.  Then after the ride I thought we could partake in Four Peeks Brewery.  They are serving breakfast, beer AND football. What more could you want?????  So who's interested? I am trying to pin down my helping slot for Paulette, so based on that I can firm up the start time for Sunday.

Holly crap that course looks crazy. Why do people not just give you a straight 30miles. I can't make it Sunday But I will ride it Saturday with anyone that wants to.

That course would make me dizzy! (And I wouldn't miss just one turn on this one...)

That little squiggly north of the lake looks like a Saguaro

I can't make the ride but I WILL be in the quarterman!

(Yeah! First race since the crash).

I'd like to hear if they fixed that horrific joint on the bridge that was causing
flats and ejecting scrunchies last year.

Red Rock is linining it up for realz:

Dates: Saturday October 18, 2008 and Sunday October 19, 2008

Meet at 6:15 a.m. at Tempe beach park..

Bike racks will be available, along with security.

There will not be an aide station on the bike or run course. Please bring your water bottles for the bike and your fluids for the run. We will be riding a minimum of one lap of the Soma course and will be explaining each turn while on the ride.

There will be three groups of riders - fast, medium paced and novice. The same will apply for the run too.

The Race Director will be describing the transition area and the flow of the race before and after the ride.

The Schedule:  We are riding first thing in the morning.  Everyone will meet Tempe Beach park in the parking lot, get a brief overview of the race course, transition and answer questions.  We will then immediately be on the bike course.  We will do a minimum of one loop of the course (you can do more if you want).  Then meet back in the parking lot to run one lap of the run course.

This is a completely voluntary ride and run. No sign up or waiver neccessary...all athletes will ride at their own risk and should follow traffic laws.

Riding the course then watching football @ Four Peaks sounds like a fine time. I'd be down for that, I might show up on Saturday also.

In my experience you had better line up at the front of whichever group you're with. The people who know where they are going are there. Then you'll get caught at a light, and no one at the light knows where they are going. Then you have to peg your HR to catch up to the group up front so you don't get lost.

Just for my 2 cents...I don't want to start riding on Sunday at 6:15.  I would preferr to do our own ride at 8 or 9.  (Saturday people can do what works for them).

I like 8 or 9 much better as well. I would rather not be with the big Red Rock group either, we easily could put together a nice small group of us.

Why did I think I read about a pre-swim?  Did I read about the ride and run and just think there was a swim?  There is no swim, right?

Is the course well marked for race day?  If I don't do a pre ride will I be lost?

You ahould do the pre-ride saturady or Sunday, so there are no surprises.

I am not sure what I will be doing yet. I wanted to do the Splash and Dash on Friday evening and then do a pre-ride on Saturday. As of now the family is sick and work is crazy. So who knows where or when I will get to do some tri training.

I know what you mean! Between two presentations, a case study, a final, being sick and having a hole in my foot I've done a whole lot of nothing. I feel like zhit but I'm just going to go out and hammer the QM at SOMA and call it a season.

I have not really been on my bike in a while. I am seriously missing riding with everyone. I will know when or if I am to have my knee surgery by then, but I am having my divorce party the night before so I plan on being ugly in the morning.

Have we set a definite time to start? I can consider the night before a carb loading and just be prepared before I go out.

I have read above options for 6:30, 8 and 9.  Therefore the three loop people start at 6:30, two loopers join at 8 and single loops catch the crowd at 9.  Is this true?
