Run
Comments: Felt great, good start, passed several racers, then fell into the groove. Perfect pace. Don't know my split times yet, but I think I was in the top 25 at this point. What would you do differently?: kick that last hill just a little harder... Transition 1
Comments: T1 was good...no problems, maybe because I used the same shoes to run as I did ride. What would you do differently?: Maybe get helmet on a little faster! Bike
Comments: Ouch! I didn't realize how much I suck on the bike! This was eye opening! It wasn't 5 minutes out of T1, when about 5 racers passed me. Then, 2, then 3 passed me...over the 2 lap course, probably 25 people passed me! Hills were a problem...My endurane was great, never really felt pooped, just didn't have the muscle to keep the pace with everyone. What would you do differently?: BRING a REAL BIKE! and train more on the bike to build strength! I would say that 1/2 of my problem was due to my poor bike quality, and 1/2 my strength. Transition 2
Comments: Easy...racked the bike, helmet off, forget to take my gloves off! What would you do differently?: remove my gloves! Run
Comments: My legs were tight at the start, but after the first mile, got the pace up to average. Passed 3 people! It was difficult to see some of the racers that passed me on the bike, pass me going the other way on the loop! I just didn't have enough time to catch them! I kicked the hill at the end! Post race
Warm down: Great race! My first! My wife, son, and daughter were there cheering me on! Also, several members of my Tri Club were cheering me! The unofficial results were posted...I thought I would sneek into 3rd in my AG, but got 5th! Drank some H2O. There were boxed lunches...I got a couple for my family...What a blast! What limited your ability to perform faster: MY MTB BIKE! Event comments: Good season warm up race...I will probably do it again next year...maybe even with some family members! (AND a DIFFERENT BIKE!) Race# 74 Last updated: 2005-01-05 12:00 AM

Got up 6:30am, stomach ached..had a tight stomach for 3 days before..ate 2 eggs, bagel, some water, no coffee. Took some PeptoBismal. Checked my equipment one more time. I was ready, but the race didn't start for 3 hours! Finally, it was time to drive to the lake...got there and parked in the church lot where I thought the packet pick up was to be...no you park there, then ride down to the lake. This was all new to me..luckily all the volunteers were wonderful. Got my packet, 3 number stickers, timing chip, t-shirt, and goodie bag and was off to the transistion area.
Woooow, what a blast, music, racers, their bikes, busy getting setup! This was one of the best parts of the race..man, there were some NICE bikes, and I have this Kmart special...that didn't matter, though, I was ready to race! I racked my bike and took off for about a mile warm up run. I felt great, no tightness, or stomach pain.
