Pre-race routine:

wonderful comeraderie and friendship the night before by meeting so many wonderful BT friends. Great sleep, unstressful wake up, oatmeal b-fast, juice, unstressfull drive and warm up. The greatest problem was that I lost my cheapest and therefore BEST sunglasses while registering!! So had to run in the sun and sun glare off the snow w/ o them.

Was able to spend some quality time w/ BT friends before the race. Lots of smiles and {{{full effect}}} hugs!! :)
Event warmup:

light stretching.

Comments:

TAGP was the 'rabbit' for the first few miles. All the men ran behind her for QUITE a while! ;) Max and his wonderful GPS unit got us into a great pace. Had a wonderful run butn unfortunately we all kinda got lost in the crowd of runners.
Fell into a groove w/ training partner and hit a comfortable stride. She reminded me that I need to hold back and save some for the finish. AH..she knows me like a sister would!! and she was right. Held back enough so the last 2 miles revealed a quicker pace and allowed a sprint for the last 1/4 or so.
The best part of the whole day was being able to be at the finish line to welcome in all my BT friends! (sorry Kgart :( waited but I got the 'post race chill' and had to get warmed) They ALL looked strong as they finished! Great job all!! :)

and special thanks to my wonderful training partner. I dedicate all my races to her. I would NOT be able to be where I am w/o the times we have had.
What would you do differently?:

NOT A FARKIN THING!!! :)
Post race
Warm down:

water, red bull (thanks to TAGP!) and some walking, stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

AGE!!! and genetics!! :)

I'll just second what Glen said, instead of posting another report. Had a great time Saturday at the local ice cream eatery, where Mike had to get his "Friendly's Fix", then at night at Ellen's, with a special "Full Effects Hug" guest appearing in Kristen's absence! The pasta dinner was SOOOOO much better than what we would have gotten at the race banquet, and we got to laugh it up for hours.

Sunday was cold and a bit windy, and we all stumbled to the start line about 10 minutes before the gun went off. I overdressed a bit, but after a couple miles and some clothing adjustments, fell into a rhythm with Glen and Nicole, doing around a 9:10 pace. I began to fall off a bit after that as I felt I couldn't hold that speed to the finish, especially in the cold weather. I'd much prefer to run when it's 80 degrees, instead of 23. But I kept them in site for another mile or so, before hitting the strong winds at Craigville beach at the 7 mile mark. Suddenly, I began to have a rather ominous pain in my right knee, and that plus the headwind for the next mile or so really slowed me a lot. The pain lasted for 3 miles, when at the 10 mile mark, it disappeared as quickly as it had arrived! I dunno what that was all about, but I was a bit happier, because I was nearly ready to think about walking if it had gotten any worse. The 11th and 12th miles went by pretty smoothly, and the last mile was an exercise in "OK, dammit...how much farther to the finish?" Not sure of my official "chip time", but I ended up around 2:08, about what I had felt I would do. It was nearly the same time as my Hartford 1/2 marathon last October, and with the wind and cooler weather, I was pretty happy with it.

Most of us staggered back to Ellen's for post race analysis and even more food. Can't begin to say enough about the hospitality of Ellen, Mike and Matt...it's friends like them and all the others that were there, that make this sport so much fun. Who cares about race times and placings....getting together for laughs and good times is really what it's all about. Thanks to ALL the crew! They were:

Mike - Ellen - Matt - Max(ine) - Patti - Glen - Nicole - (other) Mike - Evelyn - May - Kevin - Sue - Katie -

Plus the ones we met at the race: Nikki - Nikki's friend (Marsha?...sorry, I'd forgotten her name...please correct me if I'm mistaken here)

Sorry we did not get to meet Jorge...he surely would have been an addition to the wacky group!!

Yeah Glen!!  You freakin rocked that course!!

OK...so my only problem with your race report.  You act so damned mysterious about your training partner.  We have seen pictures of her....you've been talking about her for months.  Would you just say her damn name.  NICOLE!!!!!!

Awesome job Glenn and Max. It was great meeting everyone. My race did not go as well as I expected. My shorts were loose and falling down during the beginning so I had to stop and fix them with a safety pin from my race number. My first mile was horrendous but the secon mile I did a lot better. Then my right leg acted up. It was not pain but more like it fell asleept. It stayed that way for quite some time. Then there was the freaking wind at Craigville Beach. It was a killer. Although it did not go as well as I wanted I did have a blast meeting everyone. Very special thanks to Ellen and Mike and Evelyn for the delicious spaghetti dinner.

Great job Glen and Max...it was great meeting up with all of you. Its fun to know we will always see each other at the races! You are all so inspiring. Maybe one day I'll be able to race side by side, instead of somewhere back there at the tail end.
