What is the best race in or around the NW Suburbs Thanksgiving day? I will be in Arlington Heights from the 21st until the 28th visiting family. Looking for a race.

Hubby and I are doing the Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot in Elmhurst, but it will be our first time, so I can't attest to how good it will be. They said 6,000 people last year, if that's any indication. We're spending the holiday in AH, too!

I'm not from Chicago, so Elmhurst might not be considered NW subs?

The Vertel's Turkey Trot in the City (Chicago) is the biggest and most competitive.

I've run the Tall Trees Turkey Trot (see the link) in Glenview in the past and have had a good time. It is very flat and fast, but you do some strange crossing over in front of on coming runners, so its not the fastest 5K ever (if you want to avoid a collision that is). Also lots of kids, and recreational runners.

Parking can be tight.

I'll be there, so let me know if you decide to run it.

palatine has a turkey trot on thanksgiving day.  its pretty good sized race.  Its 5 miles around harper college.  My running club has a 10 mile run/ party so I will probably do that.

Harper is pretty close and I have a sister that goes there. That race sounds good then...unless your 10miler is open to the public...

Well you can run the 10 miler if you want.  I am on the board so if anyone has a problem let me know.  I am slow so I will probably start early but I will make sure you find someone who is your pace before you start.  We even have a couple of water stations on the course.

I did the Edison Park Turkey Trot last yr when visiting family in Niles. Sort of boring 5 K route through residential streets and no chips so STRICTLY a fun run! I am either doing that one or will drive out to Elmhurst - I did the 4 miler in Elmhurst over the 4th of July and that was fun!

That is not a bad race.  I did that one before when it was like 5 degrees outside.

Best thing is the timing chip system malfunctioned and nobody actually got timed. wooops. I like the Palatine Turkey Trot though. It's a nice, well run race. They just got unlucky with thier choice of chip timing companies.

Yeah the timing thing and no placings sucks, I think I did well. I got a letter the other day saying that they would no longer use that company and a $5 discount off any future race. Too bad, I live in CT.
