Not familiar with this race, but I am familiar with the race area. Has anyone ever done this run before? (has it ever been held before?)

I'm thinking of running it. Anybody else?

I see people with no shirts on in November... that cannot be a good sign.

no shirts is not gonna happen this year, i am surprised we didn't get snow today!!!  I have decided that i am gonna do this race and then the Du around thanxgiving time on long island.(basically i have stripped my roadie and do not have enough time on the tri bike to feel comfortable) I have to say i have been bitten by the running bug, now if my calf would just stop tweaking i would be all right.

When you say "tweaking" what do you mean?  You should get it checked out as you have posted calf complaints several times.

I think it is more of a foot strike thing, only happens when i push hard, i can run a 10 min pace all day and never feel it, i start to go below 9 mins and at about 1 1/2 miles it kinda tightens up, it is weird, it is the lower part of the calf only when pushing up to the toes and i do not feel it when i bike or run in short spurts. What kind of doc should i go see??  Ped secialist, GP, Chiro??

you are correct, i hardly see any fall DU's, that is why i will go to the Island. The ride is not too too bad considering I am in the South. We could always car pool if you want to go to the one Nov 30th and meet me in Norwalk!!

I had a similar problem, my doc told me that I had tight calf muscles that were affecting my achillies.

It's common to have tight calf muscles, try  10 min stretching session pre and post workouts.  You can also have your gait analyzed at some specialty running shops.

Dr = either and ortho or intenist who specializes in sports medicine.  If you are willing to travel to milford, I have a friend who is great, PM me if you want his name/number.

Make sure you have the right shoes.  I got fitted for running shoes for the first time this year and it has been a god send.  I have had zero pain despite having bad ankles and years of pounding from football.  Also make sure to stretch lots as another poster said.  I am skeptical of a foot strike issue as there is no science to back up that your natural gait is anything other than the right way to run... but do not profess to be an extpert on any of this.

This race was a complete Hoot!!!  What a blast, a little hard to pass, and it was all trail running, with haybale jumps and log jumps that you had to negotiate. The run along the beach was really cool and there was a ton of people. I would recommend this race to anyone as a change of pace from regular road running. The only thing that i did not like was lack of any mileage markers and the lack of water stops, there was only one place at about mile 3.5 or 4  to get water and that was a couple of red cross volunteers handing out bottles of water, i would recommend a race belt with fluid on it. The weather was perfect and a great day none the less. The dude that won it was a 14 time champion!!!!
