Sunday's at 7:00 a.m. at the Race Site
A big thanks goes out to Paul Kvedaras, President of the South Florida Triathletes for leading these Miami Man Orientations.  If you are racing and have a chance, this is a great thing to attend and learn all about the race.  Here's the scoop:
Miami Man 1/2 and International Distance Orientations:
Place: Larry and Penny Thompson Park
           Site # 2
Dates: Sunday October 26, 2008 & Sunday November 2, 2008
Time: 7:00am (Ride begins at 7:30 sharp for both distances)
Courses: Handouts will be given to everyone for the swim, bike and run portions of both courses
7:15am: We'll walk to the lake and I'll give everyone an idea of the swim portion
7:30am: Instructions on riding together will be given and group ride will start. Both the International and the 1/2 IM will be riden. Pace will be around 17 miles an hour. This is an orientation ride not a training ride. All cyclist will need to bring all their drinks, food and tire repair kits. There will be one stop at Fruit and Spice Park for 5 minutes after about 30 miles (End of first loop).
11:00-11:15am: - Arrival back at Larry and Penny Thompson Park.
11:15am: - Short 2 or 3 mile run.
All are welcome but if you ride please make sure you're capable of keeping up. No one will be left behind. This is a great way to learn the course and get comfortable with the area.

Excellent Bike Ride...at leat 50 riders...Wuaooo!!!!

The weather was great for a ride....cloudy....only some light showers....but...very windy like usual....strong winds coming from NE...that means...headwinds/crosswinds when you go back to Transition Area...

No everybody did the 56 miles...some did the International Distance that it is very easy...and...maybe 30+ of us did the 56 miles bike ride...We keep an average of 18.5 mph and max 25.3 mph even was super-windy...

If you get here before Friday...I would recommend to you to do ride the Bike Course....even there will be signs and arrows marked in the road...

Good Luck!!!

So how's the ride?

What she said... I am glad I did it though and it was good preview of where the wind can pick up on the course (mostly sencond half and last 13+ miles coming back into transition. Good advice given to perhaps pick it up early in AM when wind is lighter and then pace yourself for coming in...

I never ride in groups, but this was fun and enjoyed the ride. So many back "country" roads and mostly in good shape. You do cross over a few railroad tracks and have some patches of roads that are better than others. Some wonderful cow pasture aroma also hits you on some parts

Overall though, flat as flat can be and if you tame the wind and save a little for run at the end, it will be great race. All turns are 90 degrees and no uturns involved which will keep it fast. Also noted it was about 54 miles not 56, but I am not complaining...

Thanks,

We get in Thursday afternoon, not sure there will be time to ride.

Any suggestions on getting to the event site?  sounds like it gets pretty crowded, we are staying near some mall I believe and will have our car.

If you arrive on thursday...I would suggest to you to ride the Bike Course on Friday in the morning....the Bike Course will be marked with orange arrows...I will do that on wednesday before the Race....and....I will put the arrow signs early in the morning on Friday....LOL

You need to pick-up your Race Package on Saturday....and...remember to bring your bike with you....Mandatory Bike Check-In....

I recommend to you to get very early to get place to park your car....You will receive a pass to acces the Park for the parking lot in your Race Packet...and that pass will tell you what time you will have to be there and you will have assigned area for the Parking Lot....Don't Worry Be Happy!!! It will be very fun....

I hope to see/meet you there....

Good Luck!!!!

Mmmm... love me some cow pasture aroma!

Thanks for the tip to watch for the wind coming back towards transition. Good to know as I only think I'll be able to do a "drive through" of the bike course beforehand.

BTW, is anyone else staying at Larry & Penny Park? DH and I camping out for this one!
