Veteran 269 Phoenix | Subject: RE: Wednesday Night TTL Run - East Side Cool style! Not sure if the usual suspects are planning on running this week. Kind of a big week for a few. This may be my last week to run for a while. Seems I have developed plantar fasciitis. This stuff does not feel good at all. If any of you have any suggestions I am all ears. I was reading on it, and everyone just seems to say rest, and stretching. So I am reaching out to the cool kids for any of those home remedies that you may have discovered. Thanks |

Its terribly chronic and difficult to get rid of. Have tried everything and the ONLY thing that helped - kinesio tape. Dr. Jeff Banas does it - I NEVER run without my feet taped now. I also spent HOURS at RoadRunner sports with their BEST shoe fitter (GABE and the store manager, some hot chick, cannot remember her name) they stayed until after closing to make damn sure my shoes were exactly right. Also...yeah TTL - OUT. Concrete BAD BAD BAD BAD. I run mainly trails now. This is how I am typically taped for PF: GOOD LUCK!!! |

Those who need to run, run. We should plan it so that we get done around the same time so we can do breakfast. So those running the longest should start the earliest, etc.... We could make it the "Tour de Phoenix area canals with a trail thrown in here and there. " It could be a different location each Sunday...move it around. What do you think? I know some have church issues, but Sundays are my long run days, period. So I will be out there running no mater what. So if others want to join in and make it a fun group thing, then I am all for it!!! |

Master 2216 | Subject: RE: Wednesday Night TTL Run - East Side Cool style! I think the Sunday choice of Run/Bike like last weekend was perfect! It's a good idea that will hopefully open it up for more people, and we can change it around. We could just post weekday workouts on here individually to see if anyone wants to join us. I know I'll do that now and then, as well as join others that I can meet up with. |

Expert 1330 Arizona | Subject: RE: Wednesday Night TTL Run - East Side Cool style! I don't actually run on that much concrete when I do TTL. I tend to run in the dirt or grass next to it where possible. I know for you fast people it's too slow, but for El Tortuga like me, it works well and saves the knees. -Jot |

Expert 1028 Chandler, AZ | Subject: RE: Wednesday Night TTL Run - East Side Cool style! I'm fine with the Weds night runs at TTL. One should run on different surfaces to be prepared. There are not many races on dirt. I'm also good with Sunday workouts. Shelley runs on Sat mornings so can't do those. Tri season is over for awhile so it will be running for me. |

I do at least one midweek run on pavement to be prepared for a road race, but with PF and tendonitis its the only way I can be able to make my mileage. |

Yes I sometimes fail to read previous post, but my intentions are good. Merely pointing out that there are OFTENTIMES training opportunities in places other than Mesa or Gilbert. I can think of PLENTY of Ahwatukee rides, Mummy Mtn, Fountain Hills, Wickenburg ride, etc. Plus people ALWAYS have the opportunity to post ride/ run options of their own for the group to hop onto. Just because you are not paying attention does not give you the right to complain - I think our group does a damn good job of trying to include people. |

I know how to run on pavement, so I'm prepared for it. If I prepare in dirt, it keeps me uninjured so I have the opportunity to run races on pavement But really. At my speed, I pretty much jog. Running more often and uninjured will benefit me much more than any advantage I'd get in preparing to run on a flat surface that I already know how to run on.

There is a lot of talk of making sure to run on pavement especially for marathons as that is your race surface. The consensus is that you need to mix pavement into your running "diet" once in a while either a single long run or one of your shorter runs weekly. The typical percentage in mary training is about 80% on softer packed trails and %20 pavement. NOTE: pavement is NOT concrete. For 5K's, 10K's and even halfs what I have read is that you do not spend enough time on the surface for your body to really have that SHOCK. Since you are doing your LSD runs at a much slower pace than you race, your body will still receive a good amount of extra impact running a trail/ canal, etc. |
