Subject: (Small) Change in IMAZ bike course (?)

Just went to the website to print the athlete guide, bike course on the site now says "revised 10/21/08."  Looks like there is no longer a turn onto Mill Ave and then over the bridge for the turnaround, but now you "Turn around at Mill Avenue to start 2nd & 3rd loop" and the map no longer has that spur on Mill.

Interesting (if true), wonder if they extended on the Beeline to make up for it, it's the only place they can get the distance back

Not a big deal, but if you're familiar with the course might come as a surprise......

I rode that part of the course today.  I rode from Tempe Town Lake out to Beeline.

Holy crap.  That is NOT a bike friendly course when the roads are not closed!

Oh, and if you had not mentioned the difference I would not have noticed.  Though, I printed the map around 15ish October...and it's the same one.  So it was not a recent change....

OK, I wasn't sure when it was made, all I know is it's different from last year.  Thanks for the info.

As for the course, yeah, pre riding anything but the Beeline is basically just riding around city streets in traffic

Interesting...take a closer look at the transition plan and it DOES look like the bikes are going to go up Mill to turn around.

I wonder which one is correct.   I only hope it's clearer than the Soma race this weekend.

Was it bad?

We might be looking at different bike to run T plan, the one there now shows the turnaround on Rio Salado (bottom left) instead of turning right onto Mill

Yes, what I heard this weekend at SOMA is that the turnaround on the BeeLine is now extended all the was to the klight at Shea Blvd. So you will climb all the way to the top of the BeeLine and drop down a few hundred feet on the other side, turn, climb the small hill back up and then drop down the whole way. All in all, it should make the course a bit quicker than having that short Mill Ave. bridge spur.

...oh, and the signs are up on the BeeLine announcing the race.

Oh, you're right.  It's different than the one I printed a few weeks ago.  It does show the turnaround on Rio Salado now.

And yes...Soma was a Charlie Foxtrot.  Lots of DQ's on the bike....
