Maybe it's because it's Election time, but I felt like posting a poll.

Please Vote whether you basically plan to train throughout the winter, or take the winter off.

Personally, I say "Screw the Off Season!".  Granted this is my first year in triathlon and I may not feel this way in the coming years, but the way I feel right now is like I am just starting to physically peak.  I competed in ten triathlons this my first year, and I am ready for more!  I know the body and mind need to rebuild and repair - but I plan to do that through good nutrition and careful training.  I plan to take a week off after my Philly marathon and one week off in December.  But that's it.  I'm already mentally focused on my June HIM and my first Ironman in July of 2010.  Maybe I'll take the Winter of 2010 off ;)  But for me, God willing, for the next 19 months ...there is no "Off Season" - especially this winter.

Finishing up five weeks of very light training.  Will start on an 8-week BT swim-focus plan next week.  With two remaining 5ks this calendar year, I will have "toed the line" 16 times this year (tris, 5ks, metric century, mtn bike races).  I was really tired at the end of Sept.  It's been a nice several weeks off of scheduled training.  Am ready to start building base miles again.  So yeah, I take time off in the late fall to let the mid-40's body heal.

I'm pretty much done cycling for a few months and I just jumped on a marathon plan. I'm doing a great deal of running and swimming whenever possible this fall/winter.

I just took 4-6 weeks off of training, i was drained mentally.... not completely physically but i feel it will help me in the end. I am going to get back into things starting Nov.1st, going to base train and lose a little extra weight. Ever since one last bike ride to camp on the trans-canada, i have never felt the same. Did 1 race after that, and several spin classes.....

This last week i did absolutely nothing. Its time to get going again..... just in time with the snow. I will have to get some money and hit up the pool again, start running on the treadmill, and snow, and spin classes all the way.

Those 4-6 weeks off did me some good..... i can already tell. Cant wait for 2009 season!! serious.

I'm planning 1 week of "do nothing but relax and recover" around Christmas, but that's it.  I'm already slower than my friends who compete, can't afford to get farther behind!  Laughing

DC, I am sure this will surprise you, but I plan to train straight through.  I plan to have some good fun next year and that will require some serious off season work.  I am looking forward to it though.

Does not surprise me at all!!  I predict good things for you in 2009 As soon as I start tapering in two weeks I am going to start dieting again and try to maintain a healthy diet throughout the winter.  Fingers crossed

I'm trying to convince the docter that my meniscus won't repair itself and that I need surgury so that I won't miss next season due to injury.

In my spare time I'll be pouting b/c I just "finished" re-habbing a fractured back--when does a girl get a break?

I decided to do this tri thing exactly a year ago...there is no @#$%$%$ way I am taking time off and start losing what fitness I have obtained in the last 12 months. Also, 2 of my 4 planned races are in the Spring. I am planning on following a 20 week HIM plan...that would give me 6 weeks off. No thanks....I like my kurt kinetic and will pedal and run through the winter...

EDIT: to add "and swim"....
