Anyone else doing it?

I signed up yesterday for the half. I did it 2 years ago in the snow, it was a miserable experience and I swore I'd never do that race again. So when I'm looking around for a fall 1/2 mary to do, what do I find that fits my schedule? Yeah, exactly. :-)

I'm still deciding too, though I'm about 80% sure I won't be there.  Getting pressure from some people in the office to head down for it.

I want to do the half - but I am not sure yet . I am going to try and get in some long runs and then I will decide if I am up to it - I am a terrible runner.

Does this mean that the race director has been forgiven for last year's debacle?

What happened last year?

A story came out right after last year's marathon that less than 1% of the money raised by people was actually going to charity. The rest was going into the pocket of the race director. People didn't like it because they were told they were raising funds for UWMC. That's the reason UWMC is no longer the title sponsor or the beneficiary.

I guess it wasn't a debacle. More like a scandal. Either way it lowered my respect for the event.

Here are a couple of the stories.

Last year, it was the University of Washington medical Center. Now it is Amica Insurance. They changed over sponsorship because of the scandal....

I am doing the half. I didn't do last year, but did the two years prior. Both of those times it was about 33 degrees and snowing when I left my house. Three years ago the weather wasn't that bad during the race. Two years ago it POURED the entire time. It's ***so*** Seattle at that time of year. It would be fun to do a dry race, but I'm not counting on it. As long as it's not super-duper windy I'll be happy!

I need to go look at the site but does anyone know if there's cut off times?  I'd like to give it a go but it's biting off WAY more than I've ever chewed... would need to walk probably 25% of it worst case scenarieo, are there people who walk portions of it

The half marathon is a run/walk even so yes people do walk ALL of it.

The run starts at 7.30am and the walk starts at 7.45am  There is a cut off time of 7 hours for walkers.  You can do it!!!!

Gosh. Are there any downtown? hehehehehe.

I am not sure where the start is. Well I know where it is but when I think in my head I can't think of what's nearby.  There HAS to be. OR we could just grab our own drinks and meet at a point somewhere near the start?  Unless it's raining of course.

A Starbucks downtown? Hmmm, let me think....

The start is right next to EMP. Not too familiar with the area.

Okay, just re-read your post. Sorry, I should learn not to post without using reading comprehension. :-)

My family and I are staying at the Warwick, about 3 blocks from the start. They aren't coming to the start with me because I like to get to things early and will be leaving the hotel a couple of hours before the start. I'm sure there is a coffee shop somewhere in that area, I'll do some googling and let you know. :-)

Hey Russ. Even if we grab a coffee we could meet near the start. Doesn't have to be in a coffee shop

Its not exactly world class cuisine but there is a McDonalds right accross the street from the EMP - there is also a deli/cafe/restaurant in the Emp!
