Subject: I need to join a tri club

I am pretty new to the triathlon scene.  I have been a swimmer my whole life and have always trained with a team whether it be in highschool or college.  I don't like training on my own all that much and would like to join a team.  I have heard of the high road team but not many others.  How exactly do the workouts work?  Are they just posted online and everybody meets up to workout together?  Does everyone pretty much belong to the same gym so they can swim together?  I just don't see how it would work out all the well because there are 3 different sports to do, so many varying skill levels, and 2 of the sports are trained mostly outside.

I would consider myself a good athlete.  Very good swimmer, decent runner, just getting into the biking.

Any help and guidance is appreciated.

Another option if you're just looking for some company in your training is to join up with local groups for each individual segment: masters group for swimming; bike club for bike rides, or some LBS hold regularly scheduled group rides; and Road Runners or other running group to run with.

I would agree with the above statements. I don't really live in close proximity to any tri clubs for regular workouts, so I just hooked up w/ local runners / running clubs and bikers / biking clubs to train with. I would recommend looking at some race results for people that live near you and try to get together with them to train. Where are you located??

I am located right near the plymouth meeting mall.  I have trained at germantown academy but I am looking to get to a pool that is closer.

I would consider Philly Tri club. We are unveiling a new mentor program this year that will help acclimate new traithletes with the sport and help foster a greater relationship among team members. If you are near Plymouth Meeting, you are in a perfect spot for many of our group workouts. We run with Bryn Mawr running club and we ride out of Conshohocken every Wednesday and some Saturdays. It's a great group of people and very supportive. We have all levels from kona qualifiers to people just learning to swim. Check out the website (we're in the process of updating it) and join us at our kick off meeting in Jan '09. PM me if you have any other questions!
